Well, I read the Lord of the Rings at least six times, but I still went to see the films and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Then again, I guess we've already got a 'pre' thread for the finale in the forum, so any new threads would just get merged.

Sorry not to have replied sooner, but I assume that I am the JCD you refer to? Apologies if you were thinking of someone else.

I only get the odd moment to read/reply to posts and my internet deal ends at 6 pm each night as I cannot afford to pay for evenings as well. I doubt that RTD has the same problem.

Actually there are some coincidences linking RTD and myself...we both live in Wales, have strong ties with Manchester, both have written TV programmes for the BBC about aliens (although mine was none fiction) and both of us have published books about time machines (although, again, mine is non fiction).

But that's all they are. coincidences. Whilst I have admired all of RTDs work, he will never have heard of me and we have never met.

I have absolutely no inside knowledge (except maybe about alleged cases of real life time travel) and have avoided the spoilers so know less than some of you about what might happen on Saturday. And that is exactly how I like it.

I have not tried to be mysterious or hold anything back and apologise if it came over that way. My true identity is not remotely exciting. I am not a famous writer or TV celebrity, I assure you. Unless you have the faintest clue what 'Fortean Times' might be then you will never have heard of me either....

Sorry to disappoint, but I was not hinting at anything.

I had managed to work out the coincidences you mention here, and thought that there were just too many for you not to be at least an acquaintance of his.

I love a good conspiracy theory

And yes, I have heard of (and occaisionally read) Fortean Times.

Re. your suggestion that someone may go through the threads trying to deduce which post(s) may have been submitted by RTD (if any) all I can say is that I tried that little experiment yesterday when trying to track down something I know I commented on by another poster - it's definitely not an exercise for the faint hearted

On the notion of RTD posting here, I think it would be rather nice if he did make himself known and say hello once the series has finished - he can always sign up for a new ID if he wanted to remain anonymous.

Although I wonder how many would question if it was really him?

Me, too. I have spent the past 30 years living with them, but, sadly, nearly all prove far less interesting when the facts are worked through than they ever did as a really good yarn.

UFOs, Roswell, you name it...you dont want to know the truth, because what most folk think to be the truth is much more exciting.

Nice if it were true that I was in any way an acquaintace of RTD...but its not. Although I did once sit next to K 9 (or the actor behind his voice to be accurate) during a TV show for BSB!

Does that count as inside knowledge? If so then the answer to Bad Wolf is apparently 'Woof Woof'

i am sure that RTD is aware of the speculation running around these and other threads, and that he is no doubt ammused by some of the theories being spouted, and who knows, some of them may pop up in the future...

one thing i am certain of is that RTD and the production crew must be enormously proud of the series they have produced, and of the following it has attained; i didnt believe the DW would ever return to our screens, much less as one of the top rating dramas on tv, or that the BBC would put so much effort into making it a success...

Well, this place must be a goldmine of ideas (didn't we discuss this before?) - he can use all of mine if he wants - even the most outlandish ones, and I won't even ask him for a beer!

Anyway, he's definitely bringing back the cybermen next series, so I'm happy - even better if we get a 'genesis' story - and then he really could involve Adam.

I agree with your comments andy - this new series has been 'triffic' on all levels, and has exceeded just about everyone's expectations (including the BBC's, going by what I read on the Sunday morning following the airing of Rose.)

Fantastic - it may be overused, but it's entirely appropriate, and much deserved.

Right - I've started the new thread, seeing as this one's already strayed onto next week

If it's too early, then sorry - I'm sure Beth will tell me!

Well, he wrote MAM (which I absolutely loved, and I hope they repeat it very, very soon, and I would like it to be out on DVD now, please), and the title fitted neatly into the balderdash that I was posting, so I uh - yup. I sneaked it in. As a rather pathetic attempt at homage, which was why I didn't punctuate the title/phrase, or I'd have put a comma in after the first word.

Having spent yesterday getting spoilered up (not going to blow any secrets here, don't worry) the final trailer has completely messed with my mind, and made me feel like perhaps an enormous amount of misinformation has been leaked - and the definate spoilers might not be so definate. I don't mind, I like having my mind messed with!

i think i made that same point yesterday, im not convinced the beeb would let the cat out of the bag given the security surrounding the final ep! i dont mind having my mind messed with, except that it turned to jelly a few days ago with all the speculation and anticipation

Just out of interest, does anyone know how the BBC store their programmes these days? Are they kept digitally, or still on film?

The reason I ask is that I'm wondering how easy it would be to 'swap out' one episode for another with a different ending.

And BG - I hope it's not!
Spoiler
We have been promised by RTD there will be no pantomime villains.

i'm not certain but i am pretty sure that it is stored digitally, so changing things around wouldnt be too difficult...

I know nothing about this technically (I'd assume everything is digital, but would be quite touched if it was all on film still - perhaps they keep both but use the digital for transmission), but I'd imagine they wouldn't have to decide until very close to transmission which version of the episode to screen. Would give you a large amount of protection against spoilers, wouldn't it.

I'm thinking what we're all thinking!

Well, I think it's entirely possible, but then again I don't like to think of things as 'impossible' if you know what I mean (cue the Tom Baker quote about the Titanic...)

Given the amount of publicity pics etc. that's been released, I think we will get what's been shown in the advanced screening the other night - however, changing one line of dialogue could make a huge difference to what we get.

Oh, I'm wishing it was Saturday already, and we had 2 hours to go instead of 26.

I think the swap of a few key scenes could completely change the entire plot.
Did anyone else think that given the amount of hype, a special preview screening seemed a little odd? (in a "everything will now get into press hands now" way).
So perhaps it's a magnificant manoevure (it's just as likely my paranoia has gone haywire again )

From what I heard, wasn't it
Spoiler
advance-screened almost as a tribute for some of the 'old time' production staff involved with the 'classic' series?

I'm still thinking though, that since we have been warned to stay off t'internet this week, that they probably did get to see the finished product.

But never say never, eh?

I am sure RTD still has a few surprises in store for us but I am not entirely convinced that different endings were shot as surely the climax is still the same...ie
Spoiler
the regeneration.

I thought by the sound of it's voice and the way it pronounced "great", for some reason made me think that it had to be

And we all know that was changed weeks ago after they asked DT and CE into the studio for re-filming purposes.
