Whoever this Frank Parker is, the Doctor would kick his ass. Unless he's cute, in which case Captain Jack would get his ass first.

Has there ever been an explanation given for the changes made to the Tardis interior since the original white one?

When I say explanation, what I mean is ... have reasons for the change been written into the storyline rather than just added on the whim of the new producers?

I seem to remember Jon Pertwee having a wood panelled control room for a while and I remember Paul McGann having the 'Victorian' looking room in 'The enemy within'.

What about other continuity issues? I've been looking at a few old episodes and there have been a lot of other changes over the years

Other examples of seemingly bad continuity would be the changing face of the daleks, the different cybermen costumes, the changing shape of the sonic screwdriver, the white window frames of the William Hartnell tardis etc.

Also ... why were the special effects for Peter Davidson so much better than they were for Sylvester McCoy?

Er, well, it's a TV show and it's been going hundreds of years.

I think you have to allow continuity issues over such a timespan.

Well... If you read "Lungbarrow", which is a book specifically written to bridge the gap between Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann, at one point the Doctor completely shuts down the TARDIS, and says something along the lines of "don't know what that'll do to the internal configuration". Sure enough, it's changed significantly when he starts it up again, and turned into the interior in the TV movie. I'm not sure if the books are regarded as "canon" or not, but this was originally intended to be a TV serial and was written by one of the TV writers, so it's pretty close to "official".

The BBC have it as an ebook here - thanks to another FM (can't remember the name, sorry ) who originally posted it on another thread.

As for changes being explained on TV - not that I can remember, but then I'm no expert

I'm pretty sure, but couldn't for the life of me tell you how, that we know that an individual DW regeneration can configure the TARDIS however he/she(here's hoping) likes.

Why see changes in the look of the Daleks, Cybermen, etc. as bad continuity. As new technology comes along we change our houses, cars, vaccum cleaners - why could this not be a similar case of technological evolution. Perhaps they develop or integrate new technologies as they go along. The doctor certainly can upgrade/re-make his sonic screwdriver just as easily as I can go and buy a new hammer. (He's lost at least one of them - it blew up and started the Great Fire of London!)

As for the TARDIS interior - on this occasion the designer was told to start afresh and create a look for the new series and he did. It's still the same basic TARDIS but with a look and colour scheme that befits the modern/retro feel of the programme. There's been no specific story mention of this new look. It has a crazy patched up, mad scientist feel as well as something organic going on. I think they want to empahsize the more than just a machine element and in fact did so in 'Boom Town' where the TARDIS regressed that Siltheen back to an egg.

Tom Baker had the wood panel style 'Secondary' control room for a series when the show went a bit gothic - arguably one of the most popular periods of the show. Personally I loved it, though it did rather look like a writing desk!

As for the effects - I'm not sure that the McCoy eras were worse than the Davidsion ones? Budget were certainly tight in the late 80's - but I don't think Who has ever truly been about special effects. It's always been about entertaining stories and let's face it - you have to suspend your disbelief for stories of Space and Time anyway so why can't you look past ropey visual effects at the same time.

I was just looking at this site, and thought the music on the index page was 'interesting'. I think it has the feel that playing it backwards might reveal something, unfortunatly I dont have the ability to capture it to try. If anyone can I would be interested in the result.
The thing that got me listing to it again was the line on the revelations page 'Can there be clues in music?'

Sorry if this has come up before (Im finding it hard to follow all the various threads) but playing the Big Bad Wolf - French Chansons, you can hear an overlaid voice, not sure what it says though (must get my ears looked at).

It's an excerpt of a william blake poem - the sick rose:

"O rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy."

It sounds worse backwards, IMO. At least played forwards you can just about make out "big bad wolf, la la la la la!"

On the index page its definitely 'Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf' - played forwards NOT backwards - its very distorted and there may well be something else hidden in there as well but no one has found it yet if there is.

The text behind French Chansons is certainly based on the Blake poem, but it has been changed slightly - what it actually says is:

Rose thou art sick
The invisible worm that
Flies in the night through
The howling storm and
Invaded thy crimson bed
And doth thy life destroy"

I missed a couple of episodes, and keep seeing references to Captain Jack's 'lost two years'...

... could someone fill me in on what this is/how we know about it?

cheers.

We are still in the dark about his memory loss I'm afraid. We are all hoping that all will be revealed in Parting of the Ways.

Cheers. Could you tell me how we know he has memory loss - was this mentioned in a past episode, or alluded to in some way?

In Empty Child/The Doctror Dances Jack specifically mentions that he has lost his memory - as I recall, something to do with the Time Agency (his former employers, before his new found 'employment' as professional rogue).

JB who plays CJ mentioned it in various interviews about his character losing his memory.

Why was my continuity question merged into this thread? It has little to do with the current series.
