All present pay as you go users will be forced to go on to T - Mobiles new pay as you go plan in June. This represents a massive price increase for most users especailly the light users!

At present Pay As You Go is:
30p for the 1st 2 mins every day then 5p there after.

New T - Mobile Pay As You Go:
Use more than credit £20 credit per month calls cost 10p/min
Use £10 - £20 of credit per month calls cost 20p/min
Use Up to £10 of credit per month calls cost 30p/min

I suggset you put a Virgin mobile sim in your phone should work as its the same network (try before you buy tho!) Their calls are 15p per min for the 5 mins 5p min ther after.

Similar high increases for PAY-UP-FRONT seam to be happening too ....

Last year for £70 you got, 18months, with 20mins free a month, with calls above this charged at a flat rate of 10p (30p mobiles)

When I enquired, I was told that when My otherhalf is due to renew in October it is expected to be £90 for 12 months !! (the p/p/m charge is unknown).

I'm on Vigrin (the deal 'everything goes' mentions) - I think my she'll be switching too....

According to customer services its true (If you want to believe them, I suppose it depends on who you talk to?!) Also their website only lists the new pay as you go tariff. There is no mention of older ones. Heres the link to the new tariff anyway T - Mobile New Pay As You Go

Coincidentally BT Cellnet did this sort of thing recently with one of their pay as you go tariffs. The mobile operators all have 3G licences to pay for & they are obviously really desperate for cash & it looks like we will all have to pay for it regardless of whether we use 3G or not

I'm afraid that after being a one2one customer for 3 years, it now looks like I'll be jumping shipp.. most likely to an Orange contract phone..

Shame.. I always likes one2one, but they're just too expensive now.

Even though they use the same physical network, i dont believe that the Virgin sim cards will work in phones locked to the One2One network, at least i know on a phone i tried doing it the other way (putting a One2One card in a Virgin Netwrok Locked phone) it didnt work, so i would assume it would be the same doing in the other way around.

Just wondering, is the Virgin phone quite old (like mine which does work with other netowrks SIM's) as they were not networked locked so SIM's from any network worked in them. It was only fairly recently that they started network locking their phones.

Well, this phone was bought maybe 7 months ago. I also have a friend who bought one from Virgin, and stuck it on BT Cellnet. All he had to do was call up virgin, who gave him the necessary codes perfectly willingly..

Virgin seem to be quite a relaxed company

Yeah, they do unlock it as long as you have spent about £10 on airtime with them (IIRC). Always wondered why they go to the bother of locking the phones like that, if they are willing to just take it of again straight away

I have a Motorola M3788 locked to One 2 One & my Virgin sim works fine on it. It depends on the level of sim lock on the phone.

Level 1 is the network lock meaning only sims for that specific network will be accepted. Hence my Virgin sim works in my One 2 One locked phone, as they are basically the same network, only a diffrent talk plan.

Level 2 is to the specifc sim type. For example Level 2 is most commonly used on Vodafone these days. This means the phone will only accept sims the pay as you go talk plan its meant to be on. So if you were to put an All Calls sim card in a Smartstep phone it would be rejected.

I believe One 2 One started to employ the Level 2 lock in more recent times.

I just phoned T - Mobile up again to try & clarify what is happening with the new pay as you go plan & their old pay as you go customers being moved on to it by force.

The CS rep said not everyone will be moved to the new talk plan & that letters will be going out to selected customers informing them of the move. He could not tell me the criteria under which these customers would be selected. He also said that if some one was to phone up and threaten to move to a different network he may be able to move them back to the old talk plans. He also said that if someone was to move to the new talk plan and discovered they didn’t like it, there was no option for them to move back on his computer. Again looks like you would have to complain about going to another network.

So all you need to do is say im off to another network!

I received a letter from T-Mobile this week (Now binned it!) for my old one2one phone. It explained the new price plan for pay as you go and said that it would be transferring my number to the new plan for a trial period of 1 week between 1st June and 7th June.

I now have a Virgin Mobile Nokia 3310 which also works in Siemens M35i and Motorola M3788 which are locked to one2one and my Virgin mobile (bought in September) will take sim cards from any network!

What number did you ring? I phoned 150 from my handset and whichever option I chose I couldn't get through to a customer service advisor.

When Vodafone did away with the "All Calls" price plan, as an existing all calls customer I was permitted to stay on that plan.

Hope 121 (Sorry T-mobile) will do the same.

If not I am off to Virgin!!!!!!

It is there on 150, trust me, took me about 10 minutes to find it as well(!), but I think it's something like "other" and then once you're in there, it's the last option to be read out.

It is annoying but I suppose it's free until you speak to the operator so doesn't cost you any more to find it.

I got into a bit of an argument with the operator about it, but she didn't seem to know what she was talking about to be honest.

You can also call them on 0845 412 5000.

Cheers,

Liam

Do you mean they charge you when you get through to an operator?

Yes! Flat fee though - think it's something like 25p.

My parents received the letter from T-Mobile the other morning saying that they are moving to the new plan, can't remember when it said it is effective from but it didn't say anything about a trial period.

To be honest I don't think it'll make a huge difference to my parents anyway, they only use the phone rarely, be lucky if they use more than £15 in a year anyway.

Dial 150 its Menu 4 0 1 & indeed its costs a flat rate 25p.

Looks like the letters are already out!

I received the letter this morning too, for my old 1-2-1 mobile and it also does not mention a trial period. I moved to Virgin a good while back (and the Virgin SIM works fine in my old 1-2-1 NEC D500, though I don't use it in that), so I hope Virgin don't get pushed into anything like this new T-Mobile tariff, as T-Mobile own 50% of Virgin Mobile.

Obviously it makes sense to call their 0845 412 5000 from a land line phone.
Daft to pay 25p if you don't have to..

I knew when one2one got bigger it was bad news,

I have 5 one2one phone for my family and have a lot of friends on it because of the pricing plans and there is other networks, I be glad when we have an open market for networks, then watch the networks crash because of customers leaving.

As a point of interest we all left Vodafone when they put up prices.

I'll start look for cheaper network

also I remember that OFTEL says that mobile phone calls are to expensive, so we'll see what they have to say?

Back to the point of the price increase, it depends how you use your phone. For the people who are light users, it will cost them more.

However, for people spending over £30 a month it will be a very good package as after £30, all calls are 10p - including calls to other networks. That's the lowest rate from all tariffs from all networks.

It works out to be an equivalent tariff of £30 for 180 minutes a month (only 20 minutes less than pay monthly tariff Everyone 200/Orange Everyone 200). Free voicemail, 10p per text and each additional minute at 10p (to all networks). So for a heavy user it would work out cheaper than some of T-Mobiles tariffs and the option just not to use it one month and save paying anything (if you're away or use a company mobile).

Personally, I prefer tariffs. I'm on Orange who price match nearly all of the pay monthly tariffs from all networks. With the recent changes from T-Mobile and O2, I think we'll see more tariffs on the market by the summer.

I think that One to One (and they will be called One to One for some time to come) are trying to rid themselves of Pay as you go customer to either Virgin or on to their Talk and Text service (£15 per month for 500 mins landline, 50 text messages and low rates to other networks). This service is good (I am on it) but One 2 One coverage in poor in a number of areas I visit.

If it wasn't for the fact that Orange refused to take my old Pay As You Go phone number and transfer it to contract, then I would have never left them!
