FANTASTIC news!!

So, only one hard act to be followed then. I think that 2 new lead characters could have lost some of the new viewers - now there's someone from the "first" series to identify with

And the "third" series - here's hoping it's not the last.

I agree about Mickey, but I fell his character has for filled his arc, and im not botherd about seeing him either way, I suppose a What If.. episode where we see what would happen if Mickey had gone with theDoctor & Rose, when theDoc invited him to, would be fun

however ive never liked Jackie

Its happen with alot of shows i rekon anyone else agree with this ?
Wise words. I'm delighted like everyone else, but this series has been so good it will be hard to reach these heights again. And the media interest may begin to tail off in series 2 and 3. This series has had the "novelty comeback" factor going for it, plus other factors such as the tremendously iconic Daleks. These factors will be missing henceforth, and there is a danger of decline.

But it's just a danger. And whatever happens, I'm sure that the core fans will be happy.

I wonder if the BBC will be throwing a party on Saturday night to celebrate the incredible success of series 1? I bet they never dreamed it would do so well: Critical praise, asoaraway ratings winner, it's even put ITV executive's jobs at risk! As the Guardian said, it's the most successful British drama production in years.

I would like to see it go a whole season without the Daleks, TBH. Just to prove it can stand on its own.

I dont know if they are in S2, but the cybermen returing may defeat the point

Very good point and according to RTW, the Dalek's won't be in S2, or so i read. It will be interesting to see how DW does without them.

I'd love to see the Cybermen back, great monsters. It wouldn't defeat your point because the Cybermen never had the "barrier breaking appeal" of the Daleks outside DW circles. The Daleks were always the "Headline" monsters.

its true that the Daleks are the No1 Doctor Who villan, but in some respect (or at least to my limit knownledge) theCybermen are the number 2 villian.

the show should stand on its own to feet, and survive without depending up on the orginal series, but that being said it shouldnt ingore the other 26 series complety.

the Cybermen will bring back old viewers, but I hope they update them for a new generation, in a more drastic way than they did the Daleks.

lets face it the fact the cyberman have already made one brief appearnce in this series, does show that they are aliens the fans liked.

Wamdue, i agree with you completely. There is no question that the Cybermen were loved by the fans.

The return of the Cyberman wouldn't, however, generate the immense media interest that the Daleks do. If anything this is a criticism of the media. They go for the "top honcho" every time, in all aspects, in all things. E.g. If Man Utd want publicity they know they're best to wheel out Wayne Rooney, because good though he is, Van Nistleroy just doesn't command the same media attention. That's probably not the best analogy but the point is that we live in a "headline society."

I wonder if the Cybermen will have cybersex, in fact they could have invented that term!

Good news if they return. Just got 'Tomb of The Cybermen' on DVD what a fantastic story! Patrick Troughton is a brilliant Doctor.

I don't think it's a surprise no daleks in season 2, they're worth would diminish a lot if they were used often (see the borg in star trek) and I don't think the media interest, in the beebs eyes, would be worth the £250K they'd have to pay terry nations estate for using them.

Zeus I dont agree, I think the fact we are talking about the cybermen now, and the fact its something that has been romoured more or less since Day 1 of this new series, suggests the media are interested in the cybermen.

the BBC thought they were imporant to metion in there big press confrence in the same paragraph as the fact Rose will be around for S2, I think that says alot.

Sure they dont generate the same amount of publicity as the Daleks, but they produce a fair amount of there own, name me one of other alien race its been romoured would make a return?

Not an alien race but there were rumours going round OG this week saying sarah jane will be in one of the season 2 eps. Probably lies, but thats what I thought when 'the daleks are in charge of the bb house' rumours started months ago.

Yes I agree they are interested, but not as interested. You wouldn't for example, get The Sun campaigning for the return of the Cybermen. You wouldn't get satirical magazines such as Private Eye using the Cybermen to make political points. At least, I can't see it. The Daleks have always been the BIG draw, for as long as I can remember. They have an iconic status which makes them stand out.

But that's not to diminish, in any way, the other monsters. Like I said, that's the media for you.

Series Three has officially been commissioned (even Davies' boyfriend and agent didn't know until tonight!).
Billie Piper has signed on for the whole of series two but not, as yet, series three.
That is all.
PS Yay!
Cool news where you at the press do or just heard about it?

yeah her name does seem to pop up alot, not sure why TBH, along with K9.

TBH I think its to do with the die hard fans wanting to see an old character return, than anything else.

and back to the cyberman, what the press thinks isnt the issue, the point is the new show has to come up with new aliens who can reapper rather than full back on fan favourites.

take the Siltheen, that was an honset attempt to do that, they screwed up I admit, but it was a good try

The Kandy Man was a totally original character - Like Rickey Rouse and Ronald Ruck!
