I can see them using previous companions and Sarah Jane would be an obvious choice but I really doubt that K-9 will return.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that RTD wasn't a fan of the metal mutt but I could be wrong.

Given the actual robotic dogs that do exist, like Aibo, any update would have to be pretty complicated to be believable.

K9 returns!
Fantastic, now lets see him actually be useful and usable rather than a mess...

I expect him to be upgraded and be as dexterous as a real dog...

I'm sure we'll have a new K9 rather than the old one returning... maybe it'll be something the Doctor will build as a companion?

If he does come back, he'll certainly need an upgrade - he looked pretty ropey in the old series, wobbling about even on level ground. I'm sure kids these days would fall about laughing if they saw him today.

I'd love to see Liz Sladen again, though.

I wouldn't be too sure. RTD wrote a scene in Queer As Folk where one of the characters gave his friend a full size working (although thankfuly mute) K9

It would be a huge mistake to bring him back from a creative point of view, but I suspect the BBC have snffed out a marketing opportunity. Once the younger kids see it on screen, they will want the BBC licensed toy that will be available, no doubt, in all good toystores in time for Christmas 2006.

Or am I being overly cynical?

K9 Was laughable in appearance. What role did he actually fill?

I'm looking forward to SJS's reappearance, if it comes off.

In much the same way that your favourite Doctor is the one you first watched, SJS is my favourite assistant. I can imagine her pottering about in the garden of her cottage in the Cotswolds, when all of a sudden the Tardis materialises

K9 Mark I was last seen with Leela and her bloke on Gallifrey.

K9 Mark II was last seen with Romana Mark II and her bloke in E-Space.

I guess that the K9 that was delivered to SJS in K9 & Co. was a Mark III.

SO did SJS never appear with K-9 in the original series? Just Romana II and Leela?

No, I don't beleive K9 did appear with SJS in the original series.
But i THINK k9 was delivered to SJS for safe-keeping and to keep a link with Baker's Doctor....
Hving said that, K9 must NOT be reintroduced to the series unless he can hover.
And then HE MUST BE USEFUL TO THE PLOT!
Yes I have DEFINITE reservations. However, these will be overriden, no doubt, due to marketing concerns.....
