Oh sorry but I hated Dynasty, Dallas and KNots Landing, plus Falcon Crest were always my choice of US soap opera.

Dynasty was too camped up for my likeing.

It was camp but it was camp with style and attitude, not to mention shoulder pads which grew and enlarged week on week.

I always found it strange that Linda Evans left the series just a handfull of epiosdes beofre the very end, I wonder if she knew the show was coming to an end when she left, having done the entire rest of the series it seemed odd.

I think Dynasty had the best opening sequence in Soap History.

I also liked Dallas, I have the complete Season 1/2 box set and await series 3 in a matter of weeks. I particularly like the opening credits to dallas when they extended the theme and did an additional bit of music part way through the cast line up, i think it was to extend the theme allowing for Dack Rambo to be added to the cast. Love the 3 way split screen, they should never have got rid of that...it was a part of the series....that was like taking the rovers out of corrie!

Never watched Falcon crest much, dipped in now and again, would love to see it repeated now so i could watch properly. I hated Knots Landing, thought it was a rubbish spin off...maybe again i never gave it a fair go.

I've never watched Dynasty, but how many people from the Colbys or Dynasty have appeared in Bad Girls???

I would like to see it though, I might buy it on DVD.

Yep the box set for Dallas comes out here in October according to http://www.UltimateDallas.com but the US release is next month.

Knots was great, the first season was slow but it picked up big time, hence its 14 season run.

I too have the Dynasty season one box set.... got it in America in May. Paid only $29.99 from Circuit City - about £16/17 in UK money!!

Dynasty is my all time favourite show, although season one is probably my least favourite. It started getting much better from S2 when Joan Collins joined the cast as Alexis, and Gordon Thompson as Adam..... remember the poison paint on the walls of Jeff Colby's office....?

It then got better and better - yes all very camp and OTT but totally entertaining.... the Krystle's double storyline was excellent likewise the Moldavian massacre.... yes again very OTT but really enjoyable viewing.

Alas, it start to go downhill in the final season, but then so did the 80's come to and end of the excesses of that decade made the show so it wouldn't have fared well into the 90's (apart from the one-off reunion of course which was OK!)

By the way, what was the reason Catherine Oxenburg was replaced as Amanda? her replacement wasn't a patch on her so her character didn't last long after......

Seems like only yesterday I was tuning in on Friday nights on BBC-1 at 8.10pm!! (sad eh! I even remember the day and time)!

Stephanie Beacham appeared as Sable Colby in both Dynasty and The Colbys, she is a fantastic actress and she made The Colbys, she of course is one half of the Costa Cons in Bad girls (She also appeared in Connie and Deaquest)

Kate O'Mara....one of the ugliest women on TV (in my opinion!) played Caress Morrell in Dynasty, she was Alexis's sister and she was rotting away in a prison in caracuss and when released she wrote a damning book on Alexis, she was in Bad Girls as Virginia O'kane (Kate also appeared in Triangle, Howards Way and Ab Fab!)

I think that is it...just those 2

bad girls is fab!

I remember well tuning in on a Friday night, sat on the floor in fornt of TV eagerly waiting for bloody Paul Daniels to finish presenting 'Every Second Counts' to hear that familar Dynasty Theme strike up (or later The Colbys which was shown on Fridays for a while also)

I beleive Cahterine Oxenburg simply got too big for her boots and the powers that be waved her goodbye rather than give into her deamands, i think they should have tried to hang on to her, i loved her opening shot infornt of tower bridge.

Oh Dynasty is a show that i've loved for what seems like forever. My favourite seasons were season 6 and 9 for some reason. Season 8 was my least favourite and then i thought it picked up a lot in season 9 with the introduction of Sable Colby. She and Alexis were brilliant, but i missed Alexis for most of that series, wasn't she not in it as much, i think it was just over half the season she was in. It's still one of my favourites though. I have to get that season 1 boxset.

Lets look at some of the bizar happenings in Dynasty

There was the changing of heads for all of the Carringotn Children
AMANDA - Catherine Oxenburg & Karen Cellini
FALLON - Pamela Sue Martin & Emma Samms
STEVEN - Al Corley, i forget the other ones name!, then back to Al Corley
ADAM - Geoff Thompson & Robin Sachs

There was the Moldevia Massacre, as if! all those bullets and so many survived 9compulsive viewing though)

The storyline where Linda Evans played 2 characters, Krystle & Rita

Adma painting Jeff's office with poisonous paint

Claudia was married to Matthew Blaisdel, then she Married Steven, had an encounter with Adam and also married Jeff

Sammy Jo was married to Steven and later got with Jeff

Fallon Married Jeff, Divorced Jeff, Married Jeff, Divorced Jeff, went off with his cousin Miles twice and the in the reuinion got back with Jeff

Kirby was married to Jeff, raped by Adam, then Married Adam, Divorced Adam and got back with him in the Reuinion

Alexis....Married whatever moved

Dex Dexter....what sort of a name is that

and can someone explain why the set use dfor the Carrington Mansion in the reuinion was not the right set that featured in the rest of the series, we had seen that set before...it was the Carlton Hotel in the last 2 seasons but we were expected to believe it was the interior of the mansion for the reuinon.

Infact...dotn start me off on the reuinion...i iwll go into a rant about what was wrong with it! LOL

i loved the storyline where wicked Adam tried making it look like Monica and Jeff (sister and brother) were having an affair, only for it to be revealed that they weren't actually brother and sister - Jason Colby wasn't Monica's father, only Jeff's. It was revealed by Alexis infront of a packed Carlton hotel lobby, resulting in a catfight between cousins Alexis and Sable.

Im just trying to remember more of the big storylines from the Denver soap

There was of course Blakes marriage to Krystle in the very beginning but we would later discover this was not a real marriage as she was never legally divorced from her first husband Mark Jenning, he would later turn up in Denver and have a fling with Alexis before becoming her lap dog!

Of course Blake and Krystle came close to seperation a couple of times, once being when Lady Ashleigh started fluttering her eyes in Blakes direction and secondly when Krystle shared a passionate kiss with Rock Hudson (he was playing Sammy-Jo's long lost father0 - this of course lead to a major media hype shortly after when Rock Hudson died of Aids and media specualte dhe had passed it onto Linda Evans in their love scenes....how little the world knew of the disease back then...or how ignorant we were!

There was Matthew Blaisdel who had been supposed dead following a plane crash but returning many years later only to take the entire Carrington family hostage during a wedding.

Fallon's UFO adventure had been the last thing viewers of the Colbys saw and hence when Dynasty returned for the following season the storyline had to be carried over with Fallon still traumatised after her trip around the planets ina spaceship with little green men, Jeff of course thought his dear wife was now totally barking, and yet he didnt flutter an eyelash when she mysteriously changed heads a few seasons prior to this!

The Moldevia Masacre left only 2 of the cast dead despite thousands of bullets showering the guests and us clearly seeing everyone laying unconcious for the season final, when the new season returned the majority of people had dodged the bullets and escaped unharmed, Ali McGraw had been making a long term guest appearance as Lady Ashleigh and she met her end and copped a fatal bullet, the other fatality was Stevens boyfriend Luke Fuller, Steven didnt ever have a really succesfull relationship!

Alexis found brief happiness and a stash of cash as she fell into the arms of Cecil Colby and managed to bring on heartattack for him whilst they were......well getting intermate.....as he lay dying in hospital they promptly decided to marriage and he died almost straight away, missing any chance of a honeymoon but making Alexis a very wealthy lady and giving her enough money to pay for the weddings that owuld follow for the rest of the series!

The final episode saw a fight break out on the landing at the Carlton Hotel, Alexis and Dex magnificently fell through the railings in superb slow motion surely to their death, as Sable Monica and Adam looke don in Horror. Meanwhile Fallon and Kristina find themselves trapped underground along with a secret stash of nazi artwork and a phyco killer and a tunnel which is collapsing around them. Blake managed to get on the wrong side of a crocked cop and took a bullet in the chest for his efforts....and were any of these incidents properly explained in the reuinion 3 years later.....hmmm i think not! In fact Dex, Sable and Monica failed to be included, we never learnt how fallon and Kristina escape dthe tunnel or what happened to Roger Grimes and the crooked cop who shot Blake was never mentioned again. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......give us a proper reuinion! i'll bloody write a script!

I've NEVER seen Dynasty, perhaps cos I was way too young lol! Love Dallas/Knots-Landing as BBC1 repeated the re-runs. I only know Dynasty by name cos of the wonderful Joan Collins as Alexis but I know for a fact that I'd fall in love with the classic US Soap cos I'm a HUGE US Soap-Opera fan. When will Dynasty Season 1 be released on DVD? Is Season 1 worth purchasing? Does any exciting storylines take place? What exactly is Season 1 all about?

Series 1 starts with preparations well underway for Blake Carringtons marriage to his former secretary Krystle Jennings.
Steven has returned from working away and his harbouring a secret from his family, but his father already knows the truth, hs son is Gay and Blake is far from happy with this phase Steven is going through.
Fallon is also back in Denver after her travels, she has a dislike to her fathers bride to be and makes her feel far from welcome, Fallon is pre-occupied with her affair with the chauffer Michael Culhane and not to mention her flirting with her fathers business aqauntance Cecil Colby.
Jeff Colby is in town for Blkaes weddign and has no idea that his uncle Cecil is planning to marry him off to Fallon as part of a business deal.
Matthew Blaisdel returns from working on an oil rig to put his familt back in some sort of order, he collects his daughter from her grandmas and then heads to the mental institution where his wife Claudia had been residing, but she has already discharged herself and he still has a secret love for his former girlfriend Krytle, will this jeopadise Blakes wedding?
Towards the end of the series Blake is responsible for the death of Stevens lovr Ted Dinard, a court case follows and a surprise witness arrives in court........Blakes ex wife Alexis!

Season 1 characters are:
Krystle Jennings / Carrington
Blake Carrington
Steven Carrington
Fallon Carrington / Colby
Jeff Colby
Cecil Colby
Ted Dinard
Matthew Blaisdel
Lindsay Blaisdel
Claudia Blaisdel
Walter Lankersham
Joseph Annders
Andrew Laird

Why is it Polly that you always prefere the more down to earth "realistic" US soaps? Whereas the average US soap watcher, like myself, preferes to think "the camper and more OTT the better".

I wouldnt say Dallas, FC or Knots were realistic but they were more realistic than Dynasty. I guess I like to be able to relate on some level, poisonous paint, and aliens in space ships I cant stomach in my soaps of choice.

I can see why people liked it, it was funny.

I've never seen it but I will be buying the DVD, it seems my type of show. I've only ever seen Season 13 and 14 of Knots Landing, but I did like it so I'll no doubt be buying that too! Oh and the fantastic Melrose Place!

Dallas is currently airing on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning on RTE1 in Ireland. They are up to the 1986-87 season at the minute. I wonder if they will rerun Dynasty when Dallas ends or are they airing Dallas as schedule filler for the summer?

And fortunately they don't have a lot of ads during the show, only 1 to 2 minutes.

I hope Dynasty Season 2 is released soon, i cant wait to see Alexis give Krystle a hard time and have their first famous cat fight, i think this comes after Alexis causes Krystle to miscarry her child whilst out riding.
