I changed the sim in my phone to the on line one (300 free texts) then phoned 02 to ask if I could keep my old number, which they agreed to. They told me to turn my phone off on Monday and the change would take place and that my current sim would be de-activated then. As soon as I hung up they de-activated my sim and the new one won't work, so I have been without a phone for the last 2 days, which is annoying especially when you don't have access to a landline. It's costing me a fortune to phone them all the time.Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do next, this has happened twice now and I'm just about at the end of my tether, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired

Email them with GET IT RIGHT in the heading. This gets to a (slightly) better support team which sorted things for me. Plus emails are free so no need to pay the ridiculous call charges.
Virgin are good too, but note that o2's 300 texts are free (and you can spend your £10 topup on other stuff) whereas virgin charge you the tenner for the texts (ie no credit left if you topup by a tenner).

Ok thanks for that, we'll hang on till tomorrow as this is when they said the new sim will activate (although why they disconnected the old one 2 days ago is beyond me)it was a pain as my work were trying to call to tell me not to go in on Saturday of course they couldn't get hold of me, hence a round trip of 40 miles

There is a recent thread which lists ways of calling 02 customer services free.
