Has anyone read any of the new Dr. Who novels, featuring the Dr. as portrayed by Chris and Rose as portrayed by Billie? I see 3.4 of them advertised on amazon etc. Are they any good?

I have read all these books, and I enjoyed them all. The characterisation of Rose is very good in them. RTD has had a hand in them. (there are even Bad wolf references for the perceptive) My only criticism is that after great build ups in all three books, the resolution was rushed and (especially in Winner Takes all) I thought, eh what hapened there!.
The enemy within was my favourite. It got us on another planet-a penal colony where things go wrong. There are some familiar craetures which arent to everyones taste, but it helped me enjoy them more and gave a better insight into their species.
Buy them! if you got to ottakers you may get 2 for 3 offer

Cj

I cannot wait for the next three books out in september, which feature Rose and Jack!!!!

I've read them all and I've just finished The clockwise Man, I thought that they were excellent and I really got into all 3 of them.
The Monsters Inside was my favourite, don't know why, just was?

I bought all 3 today and have just started reading 'The Clockwise Man', which looks to be the first from the order they are printed at the beginning of each book.

Knowing how fast I read I'll finish it later - must try and resist the temptation to be silly and read 2 or even 3 tonight as I need to get up quite early tomorrow

Haven't we said this about some of the episodes - especially the RTD ones

The best novel I read was by RTD called Damaged Goods with the 7th Doctor - totally blew me away.

Put in an Amazon order for these today, they sound good. I really need to try to pickup some more of the 8th Doctor's books - I read some a few years back, but some of the later ones should be covering the Time war and his regeneration, which would be interesting to say the least.

I haven't read any of the old book at all - any recommendations?

I read The Clockwise Man yesterday and am about half way through The Monsters Inside - I'm enjoying them and agree with CJ when he says that the characterisation of Rose is excellent - it is of The Doctor as well.

Anyway better get back to doing some work *tempted to pick up book but must resist* - one of the advantages/disadvatages of working from home

Well, Paul Cornell (Father's Day) wrote a few as did Mark Gatiss (The Unquiet Dead) so they might be a good place to start - as did RTD as mentioned above.

Also, the first four books formed a story arc (the Tymewyrm series), as did the next three (Warhead etc) so if you like the thought of the Doctor playing multiple strategies over multiple timelines/locations they would be good to read.

But I thought the answer to the life universe and everything was 42 not 45 - trying to remember who lives in no 42

Hi All, I have not read any of the Dr Who books since I was a little lad. But i have listened to a few of the Audio books on the BBC website. Quite good even if the loading time can be a little slow.

The Tymewyrm ones were great - they were the first four books of the series, and although they can be read individually, they form a bigger, four-part story if read in succession.

I also like how they developed Ace's character in later books - I'll put this is spoilers in case anyone decides to read any of the books as a summer, post-CE-withdrawal antidote.

Spoiler
Ace decides she's had enough of the Doctor and leaves, on very bitter terms. The Doctor and Ace do meet her again, at a later time, and she's become a ruthless mercenary, a killing machine without a conscience.

Excellent reading if you fancy dipping back into some Who before the Christmas Invasion hits our screens.

Might seem an odd question but is the print small and how many pages is in an average Dr Who book - I'm thinking for an 8-year old reluctant reader. He's loved the series and I think he might fancy some of the books but might feel overwhelmed if too much.

I took my twelve year old into Blackwells for some DW books and we ended up with a bloody remote control Dalek. It keeps accusing me of being a time lord and threatening to you know what.

Has anyone else seen these or got one?

No, but I want one! Sounds like I'll be going into town this weekend...

I've got the three books - liked them, but they didn't quite go into enough depth for me (ironic given what I've just said in the Harry Potter thread ). Particularly in the Clockwise Man (spoilered just in case)

Spoiler
it really bugged me that they never seemed to explain why the villain (whose name I've forgotten) needed to wear a mask - I know they said her face was hideous, but being me I wanted more of an explanation. Unless I missed it... did read it twice to make sure though!

I'll need to re-read to watch out for Bad Wolf references though...
