I agree with Den as well.

I'm old enough that I watched the first showing of the Hartnell serials.

I think he was a brilliant Doctor, and that without him, would there still be a Doctor Who today?

(That's a bit of a self-defeating argument, maybe, as the show has certainly survived 9 different doctors!)

But, still, he got the whole thing off to a wonderful start!

(I'm a bit soft, so I agree with the Brig, when he described the Doctor as a splendid chap -- all of them. Obviously, I like some doctors better than others, but on the whole, I reckon they've done well to keep the Doctor alive ..)

OK, I'm going to keep a record of all of the votes for these threads, and when we've finished all nine Doctors, I'll post the results. (Unless the Slug wants to bring his formidable talents to bear instead?)

I'd avoid the The Chase simply because there are far too many filler episodes. The Dr is chased by the Daleks over 2 episodes and it gets a little repetative. IMHO, of course.

Is there a thread yet for Sylvester McCoy, or haven't we got far yet?

i was trying to think where I like him the best.

The Daleks
The Aztecs was good. "you cannot rewrite history-not one line!"
The Sensorites. Good use of Susan's telepathy too.
The Romans
The Rescue

I am waiting to see The Web Planet as i don't have that one. Naughty UK Gold has not repeated it.

He was great in The Aztecs, IMO. Even had a love interest.

Yes, Hartnell had the hard job of defining the character from the start, but I think the main reason Dr Who is still with us today is a certain Pat Troughton. he had the hardest job of all, of carrying on the role as a totally different character and he did it superbly.

I think the DVD is out later this year.

I will either get it for my birthday or get it off Love Film to rent. Not sure which at the moment although Love Film is probably better bet.
