I seem to be hitting a brick wall here. Fourteen months ago, I took out a second contract through CPW on Vodafone, for another family member to use. They no longer need this phone, but I am unable to cancel the flipping contract!

It was a twelve month contract, taken out by personal visit to a CPW (yes, I know better now), using Vodafone tarrif.

I have been into CPW in person, only to be told repeatedly, that they cannot cancel the contract, the details are held with Vodafone, and I have to cancel in writing with them. I wrote to Vodafone, and after finally getting them to actually understand what it was I wanted to do, ( ), they informed me that they were unable to cancel the contract, as it was held by CPW.

I wrote to CPW head office eight days ago, giving them a fax number that they can confirm the cancellation to - and even with that, I have had absolutely no answer whatsoever from them.

I have been trying for almost four weeks now, to cancel this contract - can anyone please suggest any further options?

I have no intention of carrying on paying a redundant contract, but I also do not want to stop the DD, and incur debt collectors.

What do I do next?

Do you still have your copy of the contract you originally agreed to?

On that contract, it will state the name & address of the organisation with whom you have contracted.

Write to them, at the address stated on the contact, giving the company the contractual period of notice. Send that letter by recorded delivery.

Whilst you are probably wise not to cancel the DD mandate at this time, since there may be some uncollected charges that you agree that you owe, after the end of the notice period I would ask for a refund of any DD collected from your bank account where you do not agree you owe the money (i.e. line rental charges)

Even if the DD in one month is for call charges that you actually made, and so agree you owe, but also includes a monthly line rental charge, claim the whole amount back from your bank under the terms of the DD guarantee as you do not owe the whole amount collected.

I am sure whoever is collecting that money will contact you if they believe you are owe them some funds.

Don't worry about debt collectors. Debt collectors are not instructed until reasonable efforts are made to first contact you regarding the non-payment of a bill. If debt collectors are ultimately instructed by whoever is trying to collect this money from you, if you do not owe the money, you will have nothing to pay - and that includes any debt collection charges that are imposed on your bill

do not cancel the dd as it will eventually be passed to debt collectors- although if you are disputing the debt they cannot collect on it until it has been decided that you owe the debt or not- one more thing on debt collectors do never ever let them into your home- they have no right to enter.

i have had similar problems with this, i call cpw and they tell me to call vodafone- i call vodafone and they tell me to call cpw

cpw are who you need to speak to this about as it was with them that you took out the contact on vodafone, go back to the shop you got the phone back and complain about it big time, i have heard of some many people having problems with cancelling phones lately

it has taken my fiance about 6 months to get his 3 mobile one cancelled, they wont refund him the money for any of the line rental

You need to call CPW Services, not CPW stores or Vodafone.

I cancelled a CPW Voda contract recently, but I had a bit of a struggle (long story - won't bore you all!)

1) Phone CPW services, number should be on bill. They are your service provider. Try 0870 111 7400 (got that from the mycarphonewarehouse.com site)

2) Tell them you wish to disconnect. If you get the go ahead you will be given a CPW ref number and the address to send in your written request. I sent all letters to them recorded delivery, fearing they would try the lost it / dog ate it excuse.

3) You should receive a letter confirming your disconnection request, 30 days from when you requested.

Good luck!
