At last someone who agrees with me

To answer Eileen's point; what does it for me is John Barrowman's knowing performance as CJ. A sense of humour is the sexiest thing in any human being and you can just tell he's having a blast doing that role...

I agree with you that looks aren't everything and that humour etc is important, it's just that with CJ he always gives me the impression that he fancies himself so much that there wouldn't be any room for anyone else in his affections and guys like that just annoy me.

Captain Jack is rather dishy I must say. My B/F fancies Chris Eccleston whereas to me he's simply "nice". David Tennant just seems rather "odd" to both of us, although only time will tell.

Thank god someone agrees with me! I feel like everyone has got on the Tennant bandwagon.

Tennant looks like a little old man to me - you can see how he'll look in 30 years time. That gaunt old face just stares back at me.

Infact everything about Tennant seems overhyped to me. Casanova was so over hyped by the BBC - it must have cost them a fortune. Tennant was adequate but no more. I'm sure he'll be fine at the comedy aspects of Dr Who but I wont hold me breath for anything else.

I'll put a good bet on it that Tennant will win the Bafta for Casanova - pushed of course by the BBC. It will suit the beeb to have the new Dr get the gong next March/April.

I think CJ is actually a parody of that kind of character and is played as such by JB. So maybe it's JB I fancy, not CJ...?

Y'see it's funny how these things are so subjective. I found DT a revelation in Casanova. I thought it was one of the best performances I'd see in years and found his quirkiness very sexy. But it wouldn't do if we were all the same.

I mean, I like CE and thought his Doctor was excellent; but he was far too Madchester laddy to appeal to me...

I've never seen David Tennant before, so his acting abilities are currently unknown to me. The shaking of the head and the few word he said [Barcelona?] didn't really give much away. Genie's right; he'll be quite good at the comedy aspects, but can you imagine him with the daleks? I think Russell T has got his work cut out there.

On a slightly different note, I must say how pleasantly surprised I was with Billie Piper's acting; it's a shame she's leaving.

She's not; not for the whole of series 2, anyway.

And to think everyone believes Dr. Who is a FAMILY show... (mind you, Joe Orton used to lust after Fraser Hines when he played Jamie in DW in the 1960s, so I guess there's nothing new in the world...)
Maybe not new exactly, but Joe Orton was ahead of his time.

I like the analysis in this review. I had a few qualms myself when the Doc started getting fixated on Rose, but it all turned out nicely. Very clever stuff.

I thought she was leaving mid-way through the series?

At the press screening of the last ep, it was confirmed she would be in the whole of series 2.

And I'd give the lot of 'em at least one each.

Can't get more balanced than that

I saw an exhibition of his library book 'enhancements' many years back during Islington Pride. If he was still with us, he would love the odd bit of innuendo trade on the net. As it were, of course...

And can we add the blue plumber and Jabe in then, just while we're at it

Oh yes. His diaries are fantastic (but very rude). And it's funny because he was great mates with Kenneth Williams. They both kept diaries and both, naturally, appear in each other's. Fascinating to see the same incidents on the same day seen from two very different perspectives...

Jeez - at this rate I won't have an opening free until December!

Ok, ok - I'll go back to the 'off-topic' thread.

I really should seek both of those out. Went through a big Orton phase about 15 years ago, due partly to moving to his part of London at the time, but the mists of time do obscure a lot for me. Wonderful to see a picture of a happy and relaxed KW on holiday with JO, I think in Morocco, in one of the books I was reading at the time.

Sorry, went very o/t there. I guess we'll have to wait and see how DT's DW turns out. CE's DW was an absolute revelation, and will be sorely missed by many; and yes, the combination of the character's humour, intelligence and compassion was irresistible, imho, and added hugely to the series' appeal. Will be very interesting to see how much of that character is echoed in the new DW.
