I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful 28" widescreen TV for the bedroom. Can anyuone recommend one that has built-in audio compression (sound levelling) and maybe a graphic EQ? Also, do these budget telly's from Asda and Somerfield come with a stand?

Do you have a budget?

The Pacific's from Asda are good TV's.

I bought mine about 9 months ago, and my parents just bought one for downstairs 2 weeks ago as they liked mine, and the originally one (naiko) downstairs blew up.

When me parents got their's, it was £158.82.

Good bargain all round.

Thanks chris2k2 - can I ask you some specific questions about your Pacific:-

1. Does it have an adjustable sound levelling/compression facility, or maybe a graphic EQ too?

2. Does it switch automatically from 4:3 to 16:9 through Scart?

3. Does the sharpness control still work when RGB is set to ON?

4. Does it have a 14:9 mode (i.e. zoomed 4:3).

5. Is the headphone socket on the front or the side?

Thank you very much!

Don't know what you mean proper about the 1st.

There is a sound setting which allows you to have stereo, dual 1 dual 2, mono.

AVL setting (auto volume level - the volume at which the tv will be when switched on).

There is an equalizer setting, which has 5 changeable settings, 120 Hz, 500 Hz, 1.5 kHz, 5 kHz & 10 kHz.

There are 5 preset settings (which can't be changed), like Jazz, Pop, etc.

There is an effect setting, I'm not too sure what this does, but when changing, the sound changes, not sure what way, I'm not into acoustics.

2

It has 4:3, 14:9, 16:9, Cinema, Subtitle & Auto.

I have freeview, and switches fine via the scarts, only AV1 & AV2 allow the auto option tho'.

It is possible to save the default setting tho'. The default setting when bought is Auto, however i prefare to watch the full screen so always have mine set to 16:9, altho I know the picture will be strecthed, lol.

There are AV1, AV2, FAV, RGB, SVHS.

AV1 only allows RGB, it will automatically go to RGB. However, you can go direct to the 4th AV channel (RGB).

AV2 outputs on SVHS also, therefore whatever is on AV2 is on SVHS as well.

There is an option however, to output either the TV normal channels or AV1 to AV2.

Example, you got a DVD 5.1, you can connect it to AV2, depending on the setting used it will output to the 5.1.

At the right-side of the TV, there is an headphone socket & an RCA in (scart connection), this shows up on the FAV channel.

Also on the side is menu buttons, but these can be locked.

On the back, there is AV1 & AV2 scarts plus another RCA scart - but these RCA is for output. If a video is connected to these RCA sockets, it can be used for recording, etc.

I think these are powered via the scarts output, maybe also the FAV.

It does mention in the book, a camera example (I think), but can't be bothered to dig it out.

3.

There is an sharpness option in the Picture Settings, but I don't know how to test what your asking.

The TV has a multi-band tuner, receives VHF1 VHF3 & UHF.

If you get the TV, there is an engineering menu code which can be used to adjust the pictures settings via scart, as some people prefare to get the most picture possible.

Thank you chris2k2 - very helpful and detailed!

"There is an sharpness option in the Picture Settings, but I don't know how to test what your asking...."

OK, basically, if you're watching in RGB mode, does the TV's sharpness control still work?

Can you please advise how to access the service menu so that when I buy one next week I can tweak it to just how I like it

Thanks again!

The sharpness setting does move/scroll when watching via scart, I was happy with the picture when I got it, so still really defaults, apart from the sound.

menu 4 7 2 5 green.

Write the values down first tho' just incase your picture goes screwy.

Using these settings, you can move the picture across left right, up down, etc.

Squash Squeeze.

USE AT OWN RISK

1 way of testing you have the correct settings when happy.

Flick to 4:3, and measure the picture, it should equal to 4:3.

Some people have said on other forums, normally when you 1st get the TV, that it is equal to 3:3, if that makes sense.

I didn't notice whether mine did this at 1st tho, but now after tweaking, it does equal 4:3 (approx 21")

Nope it doesn't.

Any 28" TV stand will do tho.

You didn't ask for this, but anyways.

The manual states 10w per speaker output.
