prerecorded dvds
Would someone please explain why prerecorded dvds are capable of holding large feature films without any apparent compression and play on any machine, whereas recordable blanks can't do it without loss of quality and varying degrees
of compatibility?

Pre-recorded DVDs are often spread over two layers, which means that they have almost double the storage than is available on a standard recordable DVD, which only has one layer.
You can sometimes notice when a player switches between layers, as there is a slight pause in the movie when it happens. There are dual layer recordable discs available now, but they are still a bit expesive. |

Thanks, I had a feeling it was something like that. Wish I'd bought a DL DVD rewriter now.
