Harry Potter DVD
Got this yesterday and love it. On the 2nd DVD there are extra options included in the DVD-Rom section. Including voice activated menues - gimmicky but well cool and fun.
Also included is a fab remembral which installs itself on your desk top - recommended. |

I enjoyed watching it last night. Though the computer doesn't have a dvd rom drive so I am not able to take advantage of the 'credit' extras. The kids certainly enjoyed navigating around the disc doing all the puzzles.
The Seamus Finnigan deleted scene was the funniest in my opinion.

You have to go to Diagon Alley and buy a wand. Then go to classrooms and go into the potions lesson. Get the three mixtures right then pick the right flying key (smallest one) and then click on the philosopher's stone, then you have found the deleted scenes (according to my son who has just dictated this to me). If you have any problems I will ask the other son.

You can get to the deleted scenes an easier way. On the classroom screen move around until you select the burning altr thing in the centre of the screen click it once to high light the owl statues and then again to highlight the "H" shield. your then go through to see "Fluffy" where you need the select the Flute. Next screen asks you to find the Key just guess, after 2 tries the keys will move if your incorrect, once the keys move it's the key near the center top right with the bent wing (key has handle facing you, and so is small). once you get the correct key the next screens are straight forward. and hay-presto you get you deleted scenes.

I was actually very under-impessed. Considering the amount of stuff Columbus had to cut from this movie the number of deleted scenes was attrocious. Where were the making of features etc?
The rumor is that we'll see a proper release of this movie later in the year. |

All pre-release details on the Harry potter discs stated that they were clearly aimed at kids not adults and therefore would not containe the standard making of, featurettes, comparisons etc...
You were pre-warned so can't complain. On the other hand I do agree that if you remove all the fancy menus all you get is some deleted scenes and an interview, which is quite disapointing, But in this case was expected. If anything was poor it was the film. Ok entertaining enough but it just plods along and along and along, and there's high action points. Don;t get me wrong I thought the film was fine and well done but just SOO over hyped. The worst thing though has to be the terrible acting of the harry potter character. ...On the other hand Robby Coltrane Was brilliantly cast. |

I liked Ron the best in the film. I had not looked at the features details on prerelease info because I was buying the film come what may so it was immaterial to me what extras it had. Usually though newer dvds does have some sort of making of feature on it as standard.

I agree, a simple making of or little SFX feturette IMO would have been more interesting to kid than a 30 minute interview.Quote:

The BBC have apparently dismissed this rumour under the grounds that Lord of the Rings has been open about different versions and so Harry potter would have been also.Plus with the number of discs sold over the weekend (now the fastest selling DVD) there's not going to be enough of a market to warrent the extra time and money of producing another version. The only time we might see another version is possibly a director's cut when the next film hits the cinema or dvd. |

Warners issue response about faulty bonus discs
Here's a press release from Warner Bros about faulty bonus discs:
The unprecedented demand for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on DVD has, unfortunately, led to a manufacturing fault on certain editions of the Special Features bonus disc. Following customer reports, Warner Home Video has learned that a number of bonus discs do not play properly when used on certain machines. We have conducted a thorough investigation, and we have learned that the problem is confined to a limited number of unbranded DVD players or DVD players that also operate as video games consoles. We apologise to any customers who have been inconvenienced by this problem, and we are committed to rectifying the situation for them. In order to ensure customer satisfaction, we are encouraging any customers experiencing problems with the Special Features disc to contact our dedicated customer hotline on 020 8948 5345 to arrange for shipment of a replacement disc. Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused. We are committed to providing quality products for our customers. |

Is anybody else having problems playing the FIRST disc? I'm on my second copy, both of which stutter badly at chapter 19 in exactly the same place - the stuttering continues for at least the next two chapters
My DVD player is a Samsung DVD511.

Empire magazine backed this up. According to their review of the DVD a Special Edition release is being planned for christmas and is supposedly going to have a directors commentary. I heard that deleted scenes and an extended version might be planned too - similar to the christmas release of LOTR. I guess they didn't have time to do one, with already working on the next film. I felt a slight pause in teh scene where the kids fought that goblin thingy.
Did that have anything to do with the player switching between layers? |

Why were there no spells from Harry.
I rented Harry Potter yesterday, great for the kids and better than I thought it would be.
However apart from flying around, not once in the film did Harry use any wizardry or spells. This from someone who is supposed to be a wizard. |
