Story Here

How can artists who are respected (justified or not) demand things like this for a charity event... it makes a mockery of why they're all there.

Macca is my alltime idol, but some of his actions lately are getting on my nerves. He is starting to believe he is the beatles, which is way out of line.
Come on Paul it is for charity.

What a terrible attitude to have for a charity concert he should just be happy to be taking part.

What an idiot!! Threatening not to support it if he doesn't top the bill!!!!! Yeaaaaaah your doing it for all the right causes!!! If I was Bob geldolf I would say "Screw you" and replace him with the Spice Girls or something and stick them on the top!! Its not like hes very in touch with todays youth anyway!!! What a looser!!

Well, there's only Him and Ringo left, and Ringo doesn't seem to get involved anymore. So who's going stop him from behaving like this? Probably no-one.

The story really depends on if you believe the papers.

They should announce him as Lennon and McCartney. Still the second name on the title, even now he's gone Macca, you arrogant, overrated human being.

I'm not a fan btw.

He is getting bolshy in his old age. First he wants to rename the "lennon/mcartney" monica, now this.

He's an old hippy demanding too much.

my humble opinion, for what it's worth. the beatles were an good group.
from the songs i could remember from them,as i was only around 9 or so when they split up. as solo artists. the master was john lennon. he had meaning and depth to his songs. not all of them, but the majority.
paul. well. as a song writter with wings. utter crap.the best one i thought was silly. love songs. period. george, well average, a few hits. ringo. well too few and far between,
so without john;s influence paul was a weak song writter. and he had the cheek to change all the songs. to mc'carntney and lennon.to make him look good. and now he is being a drama queen, i want, i want. or else.
he has power, just tell him to f***k off.

Wings were a great group with great songs. Also Band on the run were great at that time. I wouldn’t say Lennon was a better writer than paul. Both writers excelled together as a team.

Well I love Paul and I think he is a great person, but sometimes these celebs just go overboard. But does Bono think hes better than Paul or something? Because he definitly is NOT! I really DONT LIKE U2!

I wouldn't neccesarily believe anything the Daily Mail says, but if it's true then I think Paul McCartney is being out of order - it's supposed to be about the cause, not rock start egos And the same applies to Bono, although I'm a huge fan of U2 and The Beatles.

On the other hand, an event like this is always going to have the biggest star as the closing act, so it would be a choice between U2 or McCartney. I would say McCartney is the biggest star of all those scheduled to play (and didn't McCartney close the original Live Aid concert too? ), although U2 would probably pull in as many viewers, and Bono has been actively involved with the campaign for a long time.

As for the 'compromise' of Macca doing Sgt Pepper with U2, I read about that ages ago, when the concert was first announced, so either this is an old story, or the Mail has got a bit confused

I was at the Silver Clef award winners concert at Knebworth in 1990 and Macca was second last on with Floyd closing the show.

The last act should be a combined one of all available participants then there would be no need for arguments.
Actually I think it is time Paul McCartney called it a day as his singing now is not good!

I disagree with the thing that Lennon was the great Beatle and Paul added the commercial gloss. In the Beatles heyday Revolver/Pepper/White Album it was MCartney coming to the fore (probably cause John was off tripping somewhere!). He is also a brilliant bass player. Still acting like a tw*t though (and has a silly face with a mouth like a kitten's arsehole). On the other hand if you were him and Bono was making like the messiah and demanding top billing would you;
A) let him, or
B) say 'Bono, no!' and make sure he and his band had to wear Sgt Pepper outfits and be your backing band
?

Bono or Macca?

Crikey, it's like trying to choose Syphillis or Herpes.

What a load of bollocks. Macca is a legend, and people are condemning him because of a newspaper report which features no credible quotes whatsoever.

I have my doubts about the story, if only for one reason. In the Radio Times- somehting I'd believe far more than any quoteless tabloid story- Geldof says he wanted Macca to open and close the show. And we all know that what Bob wants, he gets! Add to that the fact that Bono is quoted as saying that he agreed to do Live 8 once he knew McCartney was onboard. That probably exposes the story for what it is.
