E4+1 coming to Homechoice?
londonspod
29-06-2005
Does anyone know if E4+1 will be coming to HC now that E4 and E4+1 have gone Freeview? I saw an advert on E4 saying that it can be found by re-scanning your box or something if you have Freeview, but I can't see anyway of doing this on HC.

Dolly, why reply like that? Not very helpful if you ask me. It was just a very simple question.

Your right it was a simple question but if you've been posting here a while like i guess dolly has then...
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

The reason for this huge laughter as as its been discussed by many here and accepted HC eally is not a great DIGITAL TV provider!!! More of a broadband provider with a few digital channels!

Dont expect E4 +1 or other channels like, RAVO, SKY ONE SKY MOVIES 2,,4,6,8, CHALLENGE TV, SKY NEWS etc etc anytime soon--- INFACT PROBABLY EVER!!!!!

Sure, I know HC isn't the best Digital TV provider out there, but its not like I had a choice in getting a different one. Can't get Sky and we don't have cable in our area and I just quit my previous Broadband ISP(Tiscali!!!! *spits on ground*) and wanted all-in-one service.

I'm not expecting to get any of the channels you've mentioned as you have to pay Sky to get those(or pay HC for Sky Movies by wire in the case of the movie channels). I'm grateful for having Digital TV with more that 5 channels to be honest! However, I would've expected that seeing as how E4 and E4+1 are now freeview that it might be available on HC. Its free to EVERYONE with Digital TV now, so why not provide it to EVERYONE, regardless of what you have!

Why not be a bit positive about these things, rather than coming across as the 'Bringer of Doom' and being pessamistic. If we never get E4+1, so be it, but for someone like me who hasn't posted on here for that long, try to understand that I don't know Homechoice like you lot do and give me a break. Otherwise you may find newbies like me won't want to post on here if you make comments like you did in this thead. I'm an understanding sort of person, so I'll forget what was said, but someone else might take what you said the wrong way and you'll end up in a flaming war.

It's as Bennat says..... I've had HC for a year now and the one thing I've learned is not to hope and wait for new channels. It just does not happen.

That does not stop me from enjoying HC. I appreciate everything that they provide. Of course I'd love to see more channels - if they are good channels (ie: not shopping).

I guess I signed up to HC knowing that I'm getting reasonable broadband and reasonable (back then) TV - all for a reasonable price.

I guess I have different views about HC to you guys, as I've only been with them since March.

To be honest, I'm really happy with HC in every way. I've never had a service where I get Broadband, Telephone and Digital TV all-in-one. I've never had broadband at more than 512k either, so having 1mb(all I can afford at the moment)is a plus for me. I've never had a problem getting through to Tech Support or had a problem talking to anyone who understands me(which is a lot better than my last ISP). Overall, I'm a happy customer. The lack of channels doesn't really bother me that much as I said in my last post.

Ok, I do occaisionally have the odd glitch or two with the box, but all I do is turn it off and back on again and its fine. To my surprise, I got a call from Customer Serices yesterday evening saying that they believed my box was about to die on me, because of a known power supply problem(the one mentioned in another thread on here). However, they offered to have someone come out and swap it over for me this Sunday morning and it would only take 15 mins! I was amazed at how efficient and pro-active they were. This is something I have never seen before from an ISP.

Obviously, compared to you guys, my expectations are too high I suppose.

Why cant you get sky?

If you want Sky News and E4+1 just get freeview! Its only £30 for a box

I tried and although I live in a block of flats with a communal satallite dish, my flat itself has no connection for the Sky box in the wall(I believe it would be an LNB socket?). For some reason when the dish was installed on the roof of our block, the previous owner of our flat chose not to have a socket for Sky(we only have a coaxial socket for TV), and to get one put in plus Sky itself I was being charged something like £150, which I really didn't want to pay on top of the monthly costs. Its hard when you are married and one person doesn't earn a lot of money and you're just starting out in your first home. We have to pay bills, plus we are about to have our first child. Not always easy. That's why HC was the best all round option.

Like I said, I'm not complaining at all about the lack of channels on HC. Its just a shame though that something which is on freeview like E4+1 can only be available on Sky or Cable. I'm not really bothered about Sky News, 'cos I can watch CNN or BBC News 24, which are ok. I don't really care for channels like Sky One or the Sky Movies Channels, 'cos I've seen it before in my parents flat and most of the programme content on Sky One and and Sky Movies is a bit boring(and a lot of the movies seem to be repeated too much and you have to wait so long for a new movie to appear on Sky after it has appeared in the Cinema.

That still don't answer why you can't get free view?

If there is no tv ariel surely you can use an indoor ariel!

For Freeview? Maybe if you lived under the transmitter............

That'd be me.

I can get freeview with a paperclip as an aeriel.

I get DAB perfectly across all multiplexes without an aeriel at all.

In fact to use the aeriel system in our block I have to install an attenuator.

I admít I can see the mighty Crystal Palace from my lounge window

DAB without an aerial would be cool.

Hold on a minute Aprec, in your earlier post you asked me 'Why can't you get Sky?' and now you're asking me why I can't get Freeview. That's almost 2 different things there. I didn't say I couldn't get Freeview, I canif you read my last post I DO HAVE an aerial socket)....but I didn't want just Freeview, which is why I've gone for HC as stated in my previous post.

Hey Londonspod, living close to you I have very similar issues (communal flat, no Sky or cable) and have also elected to go HomeChoice as it is far better than nothing! I would like to see an increase in channel choice but have not been with Homechoice long enough to be too cynical.

I am also impressed with how quick the installation/troubleshooter gets to me, although some Customer Service agents are a little disinterested when i call them!

My solution is moving to a house ASAP, and wathcing Sky+ constantly, for the rest of my days!

Good solution Kitticat. One which I won't be able to do for sometime I fear due to financial difficulties, etc. The only solution I have at the moment to getting more channels is to leave the country My wife is American and we are planning to move to the US next year (we've been planning this for a year now anyway). At least over they have more channels than you can shake a stick at!

Incidentally, I had an interesting conversation with the engineer who came to change over my HC box on Sunday(see above posts). He was interested to hear what I had said about people's comments on here about the lack of channels and said that he didn't beleive it was true. He asked me about the Digital Spy forum and I gave him the website, to which he said he may join on here and post replies, etc. He knows my member name on here, but I don't know who he is, so watch this space people! We may have a poster on here who is a current HC engineer Could be useful

in reply to the original question, i asked homechoice back when E4+1 came onto freeview and they said they had no plans to carry the channel. A shame really, before E4 was on freeview, it was a real plus point for homechoice to have that channel....now, the channels offered by homechoicer aren't really anything over and above freeview which is a shame. (apart from the okish VOD content, tho C1 has gone downhill recently.)

Apparently there are things in the works soon, but that could mean anything or nothing when it comes to homechoice....

Why? Carrying "+1" channels is not what HC is designed for. HC is designed to record broadcasts and make that available to you on a "+N" basis, where you choose the N.

I guess what you really should ask for is replay service for E4.

True, but realistically thats not gonna happen, especially for the american shows carried by E4. (Homechoice haven't got half the decent programmes from the BBC yet) so it is SOME compromise that us homechoice users should be able to get a channel that is freely available to the public on another broadcast medium (freeview) Its not like its gonna massively chew up their bandwidth!
