Pete Doherty - Live8 - What a disgrace!
Who had the brilliant idea to let this talentless junkie "perform"?
What a shameful embarrassment. Apparently he was nervous. No...he was out of his head and coupled with the fact that he has no obvious musical talent or class - and self respect for that matter. I have no doubt a few bleeding hearts will say "ooohhh he has had such a hard life and so many problems" blah blah blah! Sod him! Hopefully now he will fade into obscurity never to surface again. |

His heart was in the right place, he was doing it for a good cause at least.

His downfall is imminent. Even the NME, who have been licking his boots since day 1, have cooled off - they were pretty uncomplimentary about his Glastonbury performance with Babyshambles.
Perhaps the Doherty fans will finally see that the emperor has no clothes and he can fade away into the obscurity he so richly deserves. |

I have read that he was considered to be a talented poet when he was young, though I have never read any of his work. I watched about a minute of his shambolic and appalling performance yesterday. What tf was the lighter doing in his mouth? I have no sympathy for junkies. What made him and others think it was a clever thing to do to try heroin? Idiotic, pathetic wan*er. |

I agree his performance was rather rubbish but at least he turned up to do Live 8.

Pete seems to struggle with live performance lately, whether he is off his face or not, like he says he mumbles alot on stage and Live 8 Proved that, the bits that were understandable were good but I just think he struggles lately live. Pete has long been watched by the record companies even when he was young but he has now got to answer his critics, he isnt untouchable anymore, I dont think he is strong enough on his own to pull through and a band that is basically his in Babyshambles is not strong enough to say sort yourself out. Away from the strength of the Libertines he needs to prove a few things, he missed the biggest chance he was ever going to have, now its a long way back.

Expecting him to be anything else is like expecting a Bull not to charge just because you're vegetarian.

Dead 8?
What a waste of TV time - a load of talentless although popular people making an unadulterated racket.

Pete was better in the Libertines when he worked off Carl Barat he seems a little lost without him. He seemed a strange choice for a mainstream gig. His erractic behaviour may have more to do with coming off the drugs - but maybe not, maybe he's still on them.
Still even Doherty at his worst is better than watching a second of Dildo and her middle-class wailing angst!! |

Seems to me Pete Doherty haters were introduced to him through the tabloids (says more about them than him)
His performances and no shows have let devotees and himself down I wont dispute this it f***s me off.I cant dispute his talent either since I've listened to him well before he became mr moss Elton John invited him,he is trying to help him get off the smack just hope he isn't wasting his time but he did manage to drag Rufus wainwright out of the gutter so I live in hope |

"The boy kicked out at the world
The world kicked back a lot f***ing harder." And so it came to pass. I'm pretty much with the world on this one. Seems to me there's two issues here. One is Pete Doherty's talent, or the lack thereof, and the other is whether a mumbling, stumbling junkie should have been invited to perform at Live 8. I'm quite openminded on the first point, having never read any of Pete's poetry, but knowing that he is a published poet. But I feel that he should definitely not have been on stage at Live 8. He needs to disappear from public life and sort himself out - if it's not already too late for him. He really has nothing to offer anyone else in his current state. Stupid sod. I've known so many people like him. |

When Pete decides he loves the music more than the drugs, then will be the time to assess him as a musician. At the moment I wouldn't even give him the dignity of that description.
I can't respect artists who obviously put their work second to the glamorous lifestyle. In his present state he is just a waste of space |

It will only be after Pete Doherty is dead- probably not too far into the future- that he will be truely appreciated.
The Libertines album was awesome, yesterday was just just another step to being another stupid, pointless rock and roll junkie death. It was his big chance to show the tabloid reading nation he was more than a junkie boy and he blew it big time. He's too far gone now I fear.

He's an idiot. This was his chance to turn his impending doom around and he blew it. I mean he blew it in a fashion that brings new meaning to the word. Considering the cause of yesterday's concert, it makes him even more of a disgrace. As well all well know, people are dying and starving in Africa and he is blowing large ammounts of money that could feed some of them on his own disgraceful drug habit(s).
Why Elton John agreed to perform with him I don't know. I am sure he is equally disgraced as most - he gave this artist a chance and he blatantly throw it back in his face. He is simply a disgrace and if he ever gets YET ANOTHER chance in the music industry it will be a total insult. |

I think Elton agreeing to do it would probably have something to do with the fact that he wants to help Pete off the drugs, Elton has said himself he was too drugged up to fully comprehend what the original Live Aid was about & now he is all better he wants to do the same for Pete. I dont really know much about Pete as a performer but from what i've seen in the papers & what i saw yesterday I hope Elton can help him, & quick. |

He's gonna end up like Johnny Squares if he's not careful.
