Erm... well there are loads on eBay and the like. You do realize that they are seriously 'cheap and nasty' though don't you? The one that I received for christmas almost made me deaf after it started blasting my ears with static when the battery got low...

Yeah when I was looking thats what I was worried about, thought I would avoid ebay at all costs. I went for an iriver in the end only 128mb but its well known and i thought i cant really go wrong really.

My parents bought a cheap MP3 player from Makro (about £30 I think), so I tried it out...

It's very cheap and very nasty. Obviously, I wasn't expecting much from a cheap player in the way of intuitive menus (Engrish, anyone?) and features, but I thought it should at least be able to play MP3s. The sound quality is unlistenable, however, with a constant audible buzzing and random clicking and popping.

IMO, cheap MP3 players, while they may appear cheaper at first, are a big rip-off.

I just got myself an iAudio M3, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

As is always the case, you get what you pay for and for £20 I personally believe you're wasting your time.

For just over £40 you can get a Creative Muvo 128 with FM radio.

I have the 512K version, looks the same except for colour and storage capacity.

I have to say that the MuVo is a great player. My friend has one and has been exceptionally good! Would recommend it if you are willing to pay just a little bit more...

The new 20gb iPod from Apple

For £20 you're better of not getting an mp3 player at all, to be honest. It'll be a big waste of money. There are some great "flash" (without a screen, just plug right into your USB port and can also transfer any kind of file you want, not just music) players on the market just now, but you need to spend about £40 - £60 to get a decent one worth having.

If you want a REALLY decent flash player and are willing to wait for a bit and save a little more to spend on it, consider the iPod Shuffle from Apple. You can get a 512mb edition for about £69 - and probably cheaper if you use a site like eBay or Amazon Traders. But certainly consider Apple, they are certainly pricey but you will never regret buying any kind of iPod, I can guarantee you.

try play.com for well priced mp3 players. My suggestion would be to spend a bit extra and get one with at least 512MB capacity. Anything less and it doesn't seem worth it!

also stay away from ebay - i bought one off there and it broke within 7 months! I recommend Dixons.
