What bands do mobile phones use in Australia? 900, 1800,1900?

And can anyone recommend any UK handsets that are IDEAL for use down under - or am I better off waiting to get one there?

Australian mobile networks use the same 900/1800 frequencies as the UK so all roaming enabled (or unlocked if you want to by an Australian SIM) UK phones will work in Australia.
