Gloria Estefan
Anyone heard of her?
Apparently she's pretty well known but I hadn't heard of her up 'till recently. Her song, 'Conga', is one of those that everyone knows when they hear it! Beauty song! ![]() "Come on shake your body baby, do that conga I know you can't control yourself any longer" (Sung inhumanly fast)

Not really a fan but there's a good bootleg of Mylo's Drop the Pressure crossed with Miami Sound Machine's (the group she was in decades ago) Doctor Beat. It's getting released as a proper single and should be coming to a radio show near you.

Has been around for years. Don't like her music. Still if it floats your boat go for it.

I used to own the album Cuts Both Ways..... but I think it went with my ex-husband when we divorced. LOL.
Lovely album though! If you want to know more about her musical history you can check out this link. They also have a lot of downloads! Legal ones so you have to pay ![]() http://www.rollingstone.com/artist/_...ion=6.0.12.872 |

She was absolutely massive in the mid to late 80's, just below Madonna in the famous stakes, but miles below in the talent stakes.
It was a cheery, Latino dance track, followed by a wet, soppy ballad over and over until nobody cared any more. |

She was huge in the 80s. She kind of faded away after she had that accident in which she broke her back (or something).
Yeah, Cuts Both Ways was probably her best album. |

I quite like "Primitive Love" (the second album) with the bonus remixes on the UK CD too. A couple of multi-remix UK CD singles of hers were top notch too - 'Turn The Beat Around" and "Mi Tierra" (ironically, I never bought the parent CD albums of either!). Ah the days when you could get 7 or 8 remixes on a CD single for 99p or 1.99 quid - brings back fond memories when CD singles were actually good value for money (now they're a complete joke).
The problem with Gloria is that she tends to fall back into slushy ballads way too often for my liking - she did her best work early on in her career, IMHO. Seems like Gloria's now bargain bin fodder - I got "Gloria" and "Unwrapped" for about 5 quid each not long after they were released (unsurprising, because the albums are pretty forgettable). There's *two* greatest hits compilations, BTW (volume 1 and 2), but I don't have either myself. I guess Shakira's taken over the role as the world's most well-known Latin female singer, but I bought her "Laundry Service" album ages ago and couldn't even be bothered playing it
