why is it that at this time of night they are replacing speech with the sound of birds singing and putting up a caption about swearing. small people aren't (or even shouldn't be) watching at this time of day. i think it's a bit stupid

It's not swearing. It's more to do with personal information being talked about, and maybe slanderous comments.

i agree with Mossy Monk after 9 at night at least there should be no censorship. i thought the whole point of the show is to see how 12 people live together.

ITC rules over slanderous comments apply 24/7.

If you want completely uncensored footage, pay for the internet feed.

well they should block out the odd word then.....not 2 minute sections!

Plus they cut out any talk about BB and how it works.

This is my first BB with E4 coverage and it's crap. This morning it's been unwatchable, I'd say over half the sound is cut out. If it was all there I guess it might make watchable wallpaer, but as it is its awful.

How can anyone watch it? You have no idea what's going on, and it's not all cursing, it appears that lot's of subjects regardless of language cause them to cut the sound.

Why bother showing it, if you can't do it because of legal regs then don't bother, what's left on E4 is rubbish.

The internet feed is censored just like the coverage on E4. This sucks. Especially given that, by whipping out a credit card, I've already confirmed that I am 18+. In a world where I'm free to access millions of hardcore porn sites, why can I not also access an uncensored internet feed from BB3?

EDIT: I've been watching some more this morning, and they appear not to be censoring bad language. I did hear chirping birds last night, and a cut to the chicken coop. I guess that must have been for something else. Hurrah

Well everytime ive been watching not much has been cut.

Last night at about 12.30 - about 1:15 nothing was cut

Also i got the E4 coverage last year and more was cut.

Yes bananaman_007, I was a bit hasty to judge. It's now clear that the internet feed is mostly uncensored. That said, there have been a couple of occasions where the sound has been cut and replaced with chirping birds and, yes, a passing train! That's what made me think that much more would be censored this morning. But I've been proved wrong, and I couldn't be more happy

It's just a shame that the quality of the live internet feed is so poor. What a waist of my broadband connection

I have... And I've just been watching people sitting, silently, but moving their lips lots...meanwhile, background noise...

I can understand that C4 may have to cut slanderous comments even if it's on the net, but perhaps they should indicate that's what they've done... perhaps an on-screen indicator - small circle etc in the corner.

More of this and I'll be cancelling sooner than 14 days...

whats the point of making a program that you can't show? If you can't show the stream from the house on TV or the net then don't. Show an edited highlight program and be done with it, cos this "pictures not sound" stinks.

The internet footage is just as heavily edited as the E4 coverage, do not be conned in to paying for it. Big brother in the uk is very weak because of uk law they aren't allowed to show anything remotely interesting unfortunately

I suspect series three will lose all value as it will mostly be about people playing up to the camera to see how many C list celebrity contracts they land before they're dumped by the media in twelve month's time and left doing "celebrity" supermarket openings.

why are uk laws so strict compared to other countries, we are always behind when it comes to things involving politics. look at porn for example. these laws are spoiling what makes the big brother enjoyable.

Tuned in tonight (Sat) on CH4 at 11pm... Was my TV faulty..... [NO SOUND] As i Started fiddling.. Then a banner on the screen came up saying 'NO sound for legal reasons'.....

A little later they sensored again by 'outside noise' and a shot of the dust bins for about 4 minutes. Then it was to the Scotsman reading in bed... (no / little sound)

All the other house mates were still up... Footage from them would have been much more interesting.

Starting to get pŁ$Łed off with series 3 already.. Dead air is not entertaining.... What is there to sensor. Im sure these rules should be relaxed at 11pm at night.

Im glad I have not forked out for the streaming feeds on the net. If this censorship is taking place.

Anyway... I turned off and watched Kylie on BBC1.. Sort it out Channel 4....

This censorship thing is daft, i was getting into BB for the first time as i hadn't bothered with the first two but as it is so heavily censored i don't think i'll bother much more .
The thing that get's me is that CH4 and E4 always seemed to push boundaries with programming such as Brass eye, even the osbournes has more swearing, it makes the whole BB thing nonsense

I guarantee you that after 9pm the sound blocking is nothing to do with swearing. If they mention a company or a person's full name under any circumstances, they have to block it out. Doesn't matter if they say they like the latter they have to be blocked to remove any legal risk.

Even not quite a full name but a clear enough description of someone, they block it. The cutting away from the house is very annoying but they need some unique footage for the highlights.

This live coverage has been the same since the very first series. So it's to be expected.

After just three days, I'm already fed up with E4's coverage. I put up with it last year because BB was so much fun, but this year, I'm fighting boredom, and I'm sick of getting two minutes of sound and four minutes of birdsong.

What I don't get is why don't E4 BLEEP offending words/names/logos instead of chopping out entire minutes? The E4 coverage is on a 20 minute delay -- plenty of time to BLEEP.

This blocking off the sound is nonsence....all the have to do is transmit on a delay of 10 mins and that will allow them to edit any legaly "sensitive" stuff...the cut out of sound all the time is making me switch off.

Or not even that. I assume only one person is saying something "illegal" at a time. Everyone has their own microphone. Couldn't they just selectively only turn the appropriate one off?

What makes it even more absurd is that often both feeds are showing the same thing, but the sound is cut on one feed and not the other! And every time it's happened, nothing was being said that needed to be cut -- no swear words, nothing slanderous, no brand names.

I think the censors get lazy, and if there are two swear words in the space of five minutes, they cut it all.

I still DO NOT UNDERSTAND why they don't do what Jerry Springer does...BLEEP the BLEEPING words...
John Webb
28-05-2002
I would totally disagree with bleeping. That would be unbearable to watch. Very annoying indeed.
The reason our country is so strict on thewse rules is so that we do not get into the US state of mind where we go around suing everyone for mentioning the first letter of anyones name etc...

People need to understant UK broadcasting law before the go complaining about live things such as this - it is more complicated than you think!

John.

Well if the UK laws are so complicated, they shouldn't be attempting to show something like this.

Then again, we could all stop watching it.

Couldn't we?
