The Mirror - Anti Big Brother

The Mirror have announced today that they're going to become the anti-Big Brother paper, saying they're not going to be sucked into the nonsense.

I think it's a bit silly of them to say that, considering how much they supported Brian last year, and since Big Brother probably sold a lot more papers for them!

I think it's all part of The Mirror's attempt to be a more reputable tabloid, hence the dropping of their 'red top' a few weeks back.

I think it's pathetic.

Oh well their loss..
Do you really think theyll stay away when the exclusives start comin out in the others. It is a bit daft as it is a guarenteed seller.

Just because the Mirror isn't following BB doesn't mean they are anti-BB. Being anti something means you are acting against it. Not getting involved is a neutral activity and so is not anti.

Nevertheless, this particular action The Mirror has taken is endemic of their farcical attempts to appeal to the discerning reader.

Will they succeed? I highly doubt it.

You are right. I'm not here to defend the Mirror. All tabloid newspapers try to appeal to the whims of the public. I don't think it was healthy to try to persuade readers to vote a particular way in BB last year. People who vote are paying money to do so and so it should come from their own hearts and minds, not from the pages of a newspaper. We have unprecedented access to what is happening in BB and we don't need any newspaper telling us how we should vote.

It's not a matter of life or death, anyway.

Actually, in their "Voice of the Mirror" section, they said that they are now the Official Anti-Big Brother Paper.

ern't they the "Official Big Brother Paper" last year and managed to get exclusive news? Looks like they may have lost it to another paper this year and have sour grapes.

I suppose they could be appointed the official newspaper by the makers of BB. However they are hardly likely to appoint an official anti-BB paper.

So the question is who has appointed the Mirror the anti BB newspaper?

Is there some sort of shadowy authority we know nothing about?

We should be told.

Newspapers are supposed to carry news, Big Brother ain't news my friends and personally I'm not even sure it's entertainment, which is why I'm glad there are other things to do than watch a number of sad gits stuck in a studio in Hertfordshire who all want to be this years media stars for 15 minutes- it's a sad world!!!

And what about people who hate the show so much but post in forums dedicated to its discussion?

Then what are you doing wasting your time surfing a Big Brother forum and, er, actually POSTING a comment? Dont you have better things to do then read the comments of a number of 'sad gits' who happen to like a particular TV show? It really is a sad world!

I think The/Daily Mirror is more anti-The Sun than anti-anything else. Whatever the Sun do, they do the opposite. Thus, The Sun is bound to be supporting Big Bro, and so The/Daily Mirror is doing this to rebel against them. And yes, they are more funpapers than newspapers.

The Sun is miles better than it used to be. The Mirror is a joke though. The Sport is better.

Both the Sun and the Mirror seek to mould our opinions. They are not newspapers. Far better that we are allowed to form our opinions from unbiased news reporting. Sun and Mirror readers will buy the paper which they feel expresses their opinions and will have them reinforced, rather than challenged.

Leanne, I agree completely. I try not to read any of the tabloids as they all pamper to their particular readership, just telling them what they want to hear. The Sun, for example, are extremely two faced about what they report, especially when it comes to celebrities or politics.

The best example being the showbiz editor, who launched his campaign to get Nick out the house 2 years ago and then gave him a job and was suddenly 'best buds' with him after he got chucked out.

The only tabloid I read is The Metro and that's more for the puzzles than anything else (oh, and it being free).

I can't believe you think the Sun is better than the Mirror! Shows how much you know!

The Sun and The Sport are 10x worse IMO!!!

And to call those three actual newspapers is beyond me!

i would never buy the Sun after the Hillsborough incident. That just showed you what a disgrace it is as a paper.

i would never buy the Sun mainly beacuse it is trash and after the Hillsborough incident. That just showed you what a disgrace it is as a paper.

Don't forget, the News of the World is the Sun on Sunday. They have just published that trash about Angus Deayton. Although it let to a good HIGNFY, they have no business probing into his personal life. He commitred no crime so leave him alone.

History shows the News of the World did the same to a presenter called Russel Harty over revelations that he was gay and he ended up falling into a state of ill-health and then he died.
