john prine

does anyone know of this guy?

went to see REM on sunday, and have been listening to a lot of REM since, and discovered a long forgotton song they used to cover - hello in there.

its a great little song - michael stipe, natalie merchant and billy bragg played it at the one big day event in glasgow in 1990, which was just fantastic. (the verison i have is from a bootleg cd from the borderline.

anyway, given that its such a fantastic song, i thought it would be worth tracking down who did it originally - and it was some guy john prine - so thought i'd ask here if anyone knows his stuff, and whether or not hello in there is typical?

cheers,
Iain

well, seems he's a bit of a legend, and has been kicking around for 30 odd years!
