Just because Science told him he left school early, ie 15, he looks down on him for it. Someone should tell Derek you learn to read and write in Primary School.

Because Derek see's all of Science's qualities (honour, morals, etc) as very very bad things, so he wants to make Science look bad, thus, making Derek's qualities look better (deceit, bitching, etc).

Derek does seem to have a real downer on Science - his reasons are not that obvious. Maybe he sees something in Science that reminds him of a place he would rather forget or a person that he nearly grew up to be. What ever the real reason is, it is getting very tiring.

I shared a house at university with someone like Science, and it was great, you knew you could trust him with your stuff, and he would return it as you gave it, he never stole food, he was a great laugh, and very intelligent.

Those are the qualities I see in Science, and I'd really like to see him win.

Again I suspect it has something to do with Dereks aged attitude to life (please note I am NOT saying mature) elderly, and yes old fashioned ideas are what Derek has.

I had a teacher at school who thought anyone and he reiterated it anyone without an O level in English was illiterate. Maybe Derek went to a similar school?

H77 FM will be glad to know, despite evidence to the contrary that H77 has a full set of certificates for literacy.

I share much of your opinion, however I would hate to actually share a living space with him because he NEVER SHUTS UP, AND CAN'T TALK FOR SHOUTING.
I'd like him best as a distant friend, I think.

I don't disagree - I like Science. I'm just trying to find a reason for Derek's extreme behaviour - it is Derek's behaviour that I tier of

I personally believe he is shouting, as he's sick of people telling him to shut up. In the first week or so, he would talk with people, everyone would tell him their point of view, but they would then just ignore him when he stated his, and I think he got a bit sick of it. So over time, he just started treating people as they treat him, and ignored their points of view, and would just state his, louder than they stated theirs.

If you think of the crap he got from Max & co, I'm amazed at the strength of his spirit to never once goto the diary room saying 'I just want to go, it's not worth it'.

I think Derek see's Science as tough competition, and is worried about it, and wanted everyone to vote him out.

People complain we vote out all the 'strong' characters, but we can only vote out (or in this case, suggest to the HM's), who they put up for nomination. Derek wants to make sure Science is up as often as possible, to get rid of him, so he only has 'weak' competition at the end.

In the New Forest, their is a silly old fool, who is known as a historian, this fool tells the truth 90% of the time & rubish 10% of the time & as so is believed 99.999% of the time. I'm starting to wonder if Derek took lessons from AP before going on BB.

Derek's a bit of a thicky too. HE tries to cover it up, but like most of the real upper class he's as thick as a brick.

I heard him refer to the loft yesterday as the "bourj woir". I presume he meant "boudoir" and crossed it with "bourgeois"

As they say, 'you dont need brains to inheret cash'.

Not that Derek has, it's just an expression, you know.

I don't totally agree with you on that one - purely because Derek didn't nominate Science for eviction. He nominated Max and Anthony, and then went and sat with Max on the few days leading up to eviction night. If he wanted Science up he would have nominated him.

Sometimes it comes across that Derek feels Science has 'shunned' his help and this has upset him a great deal. Derek feels that Science should want to be moulded in to a 'mini him' and because Science doesn't want that, Derek is greatly offended by it and treats him according. This behaviour is very disturbing and makes me wander if he does it on the outside also.

Very possibly. It certainly makes sense, given how they interacted from the start, but then Derek got annoyed when Science didnt want to be his lap-dog.

I think there is something in that, and I think Derek has real issues with his own culture and colour, and i think Science does remind him of part of that of which Derek would like to forget. Science is proud of his culture and background, and seems accepting of other hm's background, and has stated he will not dispect that. Derek is seen often putting down his fellow man, but however, because obviously Science is his fellow black man it can be seen as more of a betrayal to his colour. To be honest, Science comes across much more favorable to me than Derek who is more and more quite a nasty little package!

Atleast with Science, you know if he has a problem with you, he'll tell you. There is nothing worse than people gossiping behind your back, rather than simply come out and say 'I didnt like it when you said....'

Yeah I noticed it too. He's always doing little malapropisms.

I don't think its anything to do with culture or background. I think Derek just loses his temper with Science because the man just does not listen.

Oh, and I think Derek referred to the loft as the bourgeoisary... (like 'Orangery') he was referring to it as a place where the bourgois meet and talk out of their bottoms, like Makosi, Vanessa and Kemal. Derek is very intelligent and I would rather be locked in a house with him for 11 weeks than Science for 11 minutes (even though his constant showing off would drive me spare too).

Its quite possible he left school at 15 and completed his education if he was a June, July or August baby.
I left school at 15 - 1 day before my 16th birthday.

I think you may be right in a way, although I also think as Derek failed to "control" Science & Science being up for eviction proved he was unpopular in the house, he is now out to "control" the other HM's views about Science (his second choice). Power I think for Derek, is better than sex.

God, that's even more retarded if that is what he said.

Exactly Science is a Leo, his birthday is August 14th I think. My daughter a teacher, also left school at 15 as her birthday is in August.

Didn't he say before though that he didn't finish school and wished he had?

Remember his message to "the kids" in the DR not to leave school early?
