Reports are flying that Terri Walker, a newcomer to the UK R&B curcuit has been dumped by her label, Mercury. I think she's a wonderful vocalist but I'm not suprised - she's been flopping for a while, now. It's not her fault entirely, the label were over cautious with her and I don't think they put everything behind her. It's a real shame if indeed she has been dropped.

The critics adore her but the public never really took to her for one reason or another. I must stress I've only read REPORTS of her being dropped and it's all rumours but as I say I won't be suprised if it's true.

Her album didn't sell simply because she didn't get the 100% backing from the record company. If they put her out there more, it would have selled a little better. Thing is, her latest album isn't that bad.

Bollocks! No one played the singles because they were rubbish, so how is "putting her out there more" going to influence sales? Radio 1 played the first single from the album only because she's British and they need to be seen to be promoting UK talent. Can't remember seeing it on any other playlist. "Whoopsie Daisy" I think it was called and I think it limped in the charts around #80! God it was bad. The follow up, which I don't think was even released in the end, was even worse.

I would imagine it's starting to become more difficult to sell R&B records now, since the industry has become so saturated. There's a "new" R&B song born every minute.

Promotion works wonders At least people then know theres a new album out by a certain artist. How can you say putting artists out there doesn't help? TOTP appearences, CD:UK... it gets people interested in the single and therefore check out the album to see if its much cop. If you don't know the artist has released a new album, you wouldn't buy it now, would you? Reviews, articles... they all add up the total record sales. Terri Walker is in fact, quite talented, the album is Ok, its just a shame nobody knows who this woman is.

I agree that Whoopsie Daisy wasn't great but have you actually heard 'This Is My Time'? I thought it is/was really good, a hell of a lot better than the crap in the charts at the moment!

Apparently Terri's not been dropped, Terri said that both her and the record company realised that they weren't doing what each other wanted. Its a real shame to be honest but now there is a chance that a record company who cares will take her on. Its just annoying that LOVE, which is a fantastic album, will be lost in the process

Never heard of her.

If she's a young r n b artist the market's flooded with em. All look the same, all sound the same.

Much like every rock/indie band then?

Terri Walker was OK, years ago. Her recent stuff just isn't that good, simple really.

I know how promotion works. I should've made it more clear. What I'm saying is that CD:UK & TOTP's aren't gonna want her on! Why would they? Like radio 1, they supported her on the last single and then saw it sell next to no copies. Why waste that slot on the show with someone who the public have made it clear they have no interest in? Imagine if you worked in TV promotions for Def Jam UK? You would've promised these shows that with their support and good radio support they'd deliver a hit. They didn't and it's not as if it was her debut single and you could use the excuse that it was an act in development.
