Interference on SCART picture
I have a DVD recorder and am in the process of transferring my recorded Sky+ programmes to DVD before I cancel my subscription, but there are some faint lines on the scart picture, they are like floaties of the main sky picture, eg if you bring up the epg, you can see faint words from it floating on the screen, any idea what might be causing this interference on the SCART picture, as it does get recorded to DVD, although it's not that noticeable It is annoying. Could it be poor quality scart cables?

It could be as some of the cheaper Scart leads are not very well screened.
Try keeping the leads as far apart as possible... if that doesn't work try swapping the leads over between the two units. |

This kind of interference can often occur due to crosstalk between the video signal leads within a SCART lead.
Buy a higher quality SCART lead that has individually screened leads. |

As Peter Litler and KnobTwiddler have said it is most likely your scart leads, but you could try disconnecting your RF leads and/or all the other scart leads in your set-up,also try switching off everything else, ie: freeview box

A friend had this problem a while ago and it was solved simply by changing the Scart cables. The original cables were extremely thin more like Co ax cable than Scart!
The ones i replaced them with werent especially fancy or expensive but were of what i would consider standard thickness with all pins wired and everything and they certainly did the job anyway and cleared any sign of interference. The most common interference is the station that is currently tuned in on the TVs tuner (or the device connected e.g. vcr etc) being seen very faintly on top of the main picture, this is the problem i fixed. This occurs because Scart leads are dual directional in that they can both send the signal to the TV and take signal from the TV; this is why chaining multiple devices through Scart works. In problems like this removing the aerial can help as then there isnt a signal to overlay however its still possible that it could just overlay the white noise degrading the image and if the Scart leads poor enough to let this kind of intereference through then you don't really want to be using it anyway. |

Does anyone know of a website to order quality SCART cables, to avoid exorbitant prices from the likes of Comet & Currys for anymore I need.

I replaced my free scart leads with quality gold-plated leads from Argos recently. They are made using oxygen-free copper and have made a considerable difference. They are manufactured by Hitachi and cost under a tenner each.

You can cut the cables to the PINs withing the Scart lead too.
There are 3 you should cut - can't remember what ones though.... Im not sure this can be done in all situations but it worked great for me! |
