Hi
Just recently got into these fantastic bands and was wondering if you can recommend any other good bands similar?

Older Morcheeba.

That's older stuff Morcheeba did (basically before bloody Rome wasn't built in a day), not a band called Older Morcheeba.

Definitely The Avalanches, and maybe Cibo Matto or Bentley Rythm Ace.

You might like Zero 7 - bit less electronic, but nice and chilled with great vocals.
Also try some of the Hed Kandi compilations - specifically 'Winter Chill'

You'll have to excuse Pingu & I, we love Zero 7 a bit too much Did you enjoy the Wolverhampton gig last year BTW? Everyone was *soooooo* negative towards it, but I luuuuuuurved it - all dreamy and swirly - but in a nice way! You've got to check out Sia's track 'Sunday' if you haven't already Pingy - got the 'Colour The Small One' album the other week and its great! Ooooh - and get Tino Dico's EP too if you can... *finishes threadjack*

Anyway, like Pingu said, normal Zero 7 material may be a little too sluggish for your liking; start with the 'Simple Things Remix' album for slightly more uptempo stuff first if I were you (Samples: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...164499-8238219)

Something that no-one's mentioned yet is 'Goldfrapp'; Check out their album 'Black Cherry' and the track 'Lovely Head' off their other album 'Felt Mountain'.

*EDIT*: Oops! Forgot to mention 'Groove Armada' - you should like their stuff too

I absolutely LOVED it - I wasn't aware of anything negative said about it, so that comes as quite a surprise! (I blogged about it at the time here) I actually bought Tina Dico's EP off iTunes the next day - I really love the track 'Break of Day', but some of the others are a bit weak - amazing voice though.
I haven't heard too much of Sia's solo music - except the Paradise Soul remix of Numb - which is pretty amazing. I must get round to buying one of her albums

I'm PM you rather than going off-topic even further Pingu

I forgot to say that I also have to agree with The Avalanches - where did they go to? It's been ages since I've heard anything from them; 'Since I Left You' was a masterpiece! Found out the other day that Nick Hornby wrote about it in his book '31 Songs'...

Well, for Massive Attack there's Tricky, obviously. For Portishead presumably you know about Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man's 'Out of Season'?

Depends how broadly you're looking really. Have you listened to Moloko? Saint Etienne? Lamb? Kruder & Dorfmeister and Thievery Corporation have both produced some classic albums. Tosca's album 'Suzuki' is lovely. For female singers there's Anjali - anyone who likes this genre really needs to hear her! - and Anja Garbarek, Emiliana Torrini and Stina Nordenstam. And of course the all-conquering Bjork. And the wonderful Martina Topley-Bird.

Suggest you check out World of Trip Hop and for lesser known/up and coming artists in this genre it's always worth keeping an eye on Epitonic.

They've got a new album coming out shortly, 'Supernature', although it's likely to be another significant shift in style. I love Goldfrapp.

For more ex-Portishead, there's also DJ Andy Smith's Dynamo Productions project...

It depends what you like about MA, Portishead etc. but I could recommend Smith & Mighty. Should have been as big as Massive Attack. Also, I would recommend 'the Pop Group' and 'Rip Rig and Panic' from the mid 80's, but finding any of their stuff is impossible.

Daddy G (Grant Marshall out of Massive Attack) did his own DJ Kicks album last year, that should still be out, and it's well worth getting, and there's also a cd called 'Massive Classics' out, which is a bunch of songs that MA sampled for their 'Blue Lines' and 'Protection' albums.

Finally, have a look at www.red-lines.co.uk, everything you ever wanted to know about MA.

Looking forward to Goldfrapp's new album, btw.
