Virgin Radio Schedule
With Virgin radio swapping shows around at the moment. I thought you might like to say what your ideal schedule using there current DJs would be? Preferably what it would look like after Pete & Geoff leave breakfast?

I assumed that Pete & Geoff would be going to Drive in the New Year. Of course that may still happen but it looks unlikely as Martin Collins takes up that position on Monday with Kelly moving to The Late Show.
Maybe they'll do the Evening playing what they want (meaning newer bands on a more frequent basis) or they could take up the Afternoon slot. If they sort out the music policy, personally, I would like to see the weekday Virgin schedule similar to this (forgetting what recent changes they have done): 6:00am-10:00am Christian O'Connell 10:00am-1:00pm Russ Williams 1:00pm-4:00pm Neil Francis 4:00pm-7:00pm Pete & Geoff 7:00pm-10:00pm Ben Jones (and Kelly?) 10:00pm-1:00am Martin Collins They need to let presenter says more than a few sentences and make them become real people again not just robots quoting from the "On this Day" page in X-Trax magazine. |

It's a shame Pete and Geoff no longer have the Sunday morning breakfast show - that was always good, even though it was a 'best of'.

Is it a permanant fixture that Martin is on Drive-time. I reckon come september more changes will happen.
I can remember last year that when the Summer arrived and they had to get leona to covering all shows. So know doubt Kelly is on the late show though the summer and Martin maybe covering shows alongside leona. So it's easy to keep Martin on Day work. |

I'm not sure Pete & Geoff will go to Drive time, because that is where they came from (Chris Evans days).

I see them doing Drive or the evening show, maybe 6pm to 9pm or something.
The show has changed alot since they moved to breakfast - hopefully this'll take the pressure off a little bit and they'll be allowed to talk a bit more and do a few more features. |

The first thing I thought when I heard Neil Fox was leaving Capital was that he was either being put on gardening leave or deliberately taking a break from radio so he could join his mate Collins at Virgin without listeners thinking of Capital every time he spoke.
As an aside, I tuned in to Virgin this afternoon and notice they've had Dr Frankenstein knock 'em up a radio edit of Won't Get Fooled Again. I suppose Sweet Child o' Mine is next... |

![]() I've heard some good tracks on there this morning, especially around 10am. I really expected Razorlight or Keane to pop up but they didn't. Pete and Geoff haven't held back from taking the mic out of Dr Fox, and Daryl Denham did his fair share of parodies about him - would be odd if he joined there, and I can't say I'd listen to his show if he did. All of the DJs now have a real interest in rock and indie music, where as Foxy (to my knowledge) has only done pop and chart shows. |

Oh, and Razor Cuts - there's a hidden gem. Can we have at least one or two trailers for this in the day? |

![]() Christian O'Connel has slagged Virgin off something rotten over the last couple of years and even did a parody jingle making fun of them suggesting that ending up on Virgin was where all the bad DJs go to die. And then there was Steve Penk who made fun of Virgin when he was on Capital, then went there and slagged off "the last place" before going back to Capital to say how great it was and how useless "the last place" was. No idea what he says about Capital now he's on an Emap station ![]() Quote:
I suppose it's fair enough to take the money if it's offered to you but he's not on a pop station anymore, doing chart shows or owned by Pepsi so if he went back to his original style then I wouldn't mind him going to Virgin. Martin Collins' late show on Virgin is a perfect clone of his late show on Capital in the early 90s, even down to the Mellow Madness Pt 1 & 2 feature and playing the 12-inch "In Hollywood tonight" version of Desire by U2. The first time I tuned in it was like a time warp! But... most people are like you and either don't know or have forgotten he used to be a real rock fan so they might think it odd if he suddenly appeared on a rock station playing grown ups music. Maybe that's why he wants to take a sabatical and do a few TV quiz shows with adults instead of screaming wannabes. I have to say the sadest thing I've ever seen him do was one of those top-100 shows on Channel 4 with Simon Cowel. They tried to show the 11pm audience that they were real men by calling each other ******* and doing the hand shake to the camera. So contrived. |

Ooh I see - thanks for that Toshiba.
![]() I only started to hear Dr Fox when I started listening to Essex FM in 2000. Before then I'd only ever listened to Virgin and Radio 1. I've been listening to Virgin almost every day since April 1993 when they launched, and I think it's gone a little down hill in the last few years. I have only ever heard one Christian O'Connell show and it was when he had Tenacious D on, back in 2002/2003. It sounded good, and it sounded like he had more space to breathe than the DJs do on Virgin, so it'll be interesting to see what happens. I was hoping the new Cheif Exec (coming from Yahoo!) would make some changes, but sadly I don't see that happening. |

I fail to see the point in putting that up, sir. It's hardly realistic. But it would be a good schedule none the less. I would be interested to see other people's favourite ever Virgin presenters/shows.

I can't believe anybody still listens to Virgin. Their DJ's are all clones of Smashie and Nicey and it's become a parody of Capital Gold as it resorts to more and more dadrock from 30 years ago.

Besides, Russ Williams and Pete & Geoff are excellent DJs. I'd rather listen to Virgin all day than someone like Chris Moyles for an hour. |
