I know homechoice are replacing all the STB's with faulty power supplies and they have just done mine now but the first thing i noticed when i switched it on is the picture seems to be much better with the new STB, anyone else noticed this or is it all in my mind ??

Might be your mind.

Either that, or the PSU wasn't supplying enough power, meaning a dimmer signal. That's probably the best bet.

All the new boxes have updated software......i've been told to expect developments in the middle term. (by the engineer)

Hmmm is that right..seems the same to me (I had mine replaced last week). I'll have to check if the radio bug is fixed too...

Now that seems unlikely to me as the boxes are all software upgradable over the line and most of the features are actually provided server side.

The benefit of HomeChoice is that the box is effectevly a dumb client so any advances in the system are available to all clients and are not as restricted as they would have to be for the Sky or Cable platforms where they need to restrict what they develop to run on the boxes they have deployed.

When my new box was installed it reported firmware version 1.01. Doesn't sound like an exciting new feature-set to me. The engineer also failed to confirm any changes in the behavior, quality or reliability, but confirmed a decreased probability of the house being on fire.

That's something.

always good that! Being able to leave your house, safe in the knowledge it'll still be there on your return!

homechoice are not allowed to say anything really. What was said is that the main reason all the boxes across the network are being changed is of course because of the faulty power supply. But homechoice have found this an ideal time to update the software on the box too, why not eh. Nothing is gonna happen in the short term but apparently they are working behind the scenes for new features....when this will come and whether it is true nobody really knows!!

What box do I have then? Just joined within the last 8 weeks. It runs hot.
