Did she mean a gay freak or a freak that happens to be gay?

I don't know what Brian would say.*

I think I heard that, too. It was very early on. Perhaps in the same conversation in which he said that masturbation wasn't "right"?

That homosexual behaviour is "not right" is a widely held belief. I don't know anything about Science's religious upbringing, but I can imagine that it tended to the conservative.

So. He thinks such behaviour is not right. And how does he treat the other people in the house? Does he treat Derek with disdain for his sexuality? Nope. When he blows up at Derek, it's because Derek has treated him disrespectfully.

Has he sought to diminish Kemal? Nope. Has he proclaimed Craig's eternal damnation? Nope. Is he intolerant? Nope.

Yes but if he had been white and said any thing like that about race he would be voted out

And how ever widely held a view it doesn't make it right, racism is a view held by other wise nice people
All over this country doesn't make it any more right

And thanks for being polite and not shooting my post down because it questioned your post

There's a huge difference between racism and disapproving of certain behaviour.

Racism is the belief that one race is superior to others. This supposed superiority justifies discrimination. Members of the "superior" race have certain rights that "inferior" people don't.

"Homophobia" is... I don't know what it is. The belief that certain people don't have fundamental rights? Fear of those who are different?

Science's statement that certain behaviour "isn't right" doesn't spring from homophobia. How do I know that? I've seen how he acts.

The popular use of homophobia means a dislike or hatred of homosexual people. I'm sure you knew this. Are you playing innocent to cover up some dodgy views I wonder?

A freak who also happens to be gay?

A freak is (usually) someone who is termed so due to unusual tastes/habits. Derek is a nasty two faced b!tch, there are plenty like him I'm sure, therefore I wouldn't call him a freak. Just highly unpleasant

a more likely gay freak would actually be a conservative member, remember clause 28?

actually i dont think any homosexual persons voting preferences makes them a gay freak

the whole reason for this thread was to highlite orla's bigotted attitude towards gay people, if she said hes a black freak then ppl would be up in arms calling her a racist, but as someone said earlier, because they are gay then it makes them fair game and ok to use abusive terms.

im gay, and to be called a freak is hurtful (although i'll get over it) i also feel that shes the type of bigot that i had to deal with 20 years ago in the playground.

20 years on and we are in a different world where gay ppl are accepted, either shes in a time warp or she has a shallow mind.

i just pray that if she has a child, it does not turn out to be gay, otherwise it will very unloved.

shes an evil woman.

1. Define "dodgy views".

2. It seems to me that you didn't read the entire posts. Perhaps your definition of "dodgy views" will verify or refute that assumption.

3. "Homophobia" dates from 1969. It's a most unfortunate invention for several reasons.

Whatever the case may be, Science has never displayed any evidence of "homophobia".

Your tone sounded a little fakely naive. You appear to be stating a fact and yet concealing a fact at the same time. You have just done the same in the above post. Why would anyone think that homophobia dates from 1969??? Why is it an unfortunate invention. It is a useful label that society can attach to behaviours that degrade or threaten homosexuals. I would assume that those who feel this term is 'unfortunate' would not wish to be a part of a society who respects others equally. Tell me if I'm wrong with my assumptions, but please, no more sly, faux naive statements- leave that to Derek.

According to Wikipedia, the word first appeared in 1971.

According to Online Etymology Dictionary, it dates from 1969.

So, to answer your question... One might think "homophobia" dates from about 1969 because... That's when it dates from.

The word itself strikes me as ridiculous. It's all wrong. It makes no sense. It does not mean what it should mean. What "homophobes" are suffering from is, in fact, heterophobia. Fear of the different.

It is apparent to me that either you have not read my post of 18:50 or you have not understood it. (There is a third possibility, but it is too horrible to contemplate.)

"It ain't right" - in reference to homosexual activity - is not evidence of "homophobia". ("Gay freak" may be, but since that's the topic of this thread, I'll try to steer clear of that for the moment.) It's evidence of a particular moral code.

From what I have seen on BB, Science is no homophobe.
