Why is Derek liked and Makosi so disliked?

I don't understand why Derek is so popular because basically he is doing the same thing as Makosi. He is stirring things up with different housemates to get them to nominate each other. His tactics are no different than Makosi's. In fact, he is probably more sly and at 41 year's old he should be setting an example to the other hms, not acting as immaturely as the rest of them.

When women are portayed as backstabbing as bitchy, everyone always get the knifes out but when men do the same it's just seen as amusing. It's double standards.

I agree that Derek is entertaining, and comes out with some real gems, but Makosi is also good entertainment value.

I am not a Makosi fan, don't get me wrong, but I fail to see why there is such a discrepancy in the popularity stakes between these two?

Science to win!!

Because Derek is a man and Makosi is a woman. Plus the fact that Endemol make Derek out to be a Saint and Makosi out to be the Devil Incarnate nowadays in the highlight shows.

Not by me. I hate them both almost equally.

Unfortunate name you have there BTW.

Derek is disliked here, though. I don't know what forum you're reading if you think he's getting off with it lightly.

I like Derek because I think he's witty and I find it hilarious he's playing all the other housemates for fools and they're not latching onto it. They're all as bad as each other but because Derek is the smartest, he's berated for it. They're all in it for the money anyway, so I don't feel too sympathetic for them.

Makosi is just a drama queen whereas Derek is naturally funny.

cos Derek is nice and Makosi isn't

Derek doesn't sit around like a queen bee with his drones buzzin' around and then kick the buggers in the ass

Yes, in a slightly similar vein, I'd say that Derek is considerably more entertaining than Makosi - he encapsulates a variety of attributes that when taken together make him quite a "unique" and entertaining individual. Makosi's got some positive attributes, however, she can seem rather "bland" at times.

Personally I dislike both these character's equally, but to point out why other people may perceive them differently: Derek has not drawn as much attention to himself with claims of pregnancy or sick relatives, he's playing the game subtly rather than in your face shock value like Makosi

Poor Anna! I don't think anything malicous was meant...It's just at a quick glance your username appears to say something else.....

Unfortunately Derek gets a lot of favourable edits in the highlights. They prefer to show his funny one-liners in the diary room but rarely show his plotting and scheming. He is extremely sly in the way that he does it. If he is talking about the behaviour of a housemate that he dislikes, he then drops in the name of another person into the conversation and then quickly adds 'but that's for another day' in order to include them in the criticism but indirectly.

He called Saskia a silent assassin but if ever a title suited someone, it's Derek. He is truly deceitful and a liar. He denied to Anthony that he'd ever called him gay or a closet gay, yet we've all heard him discuss this with various HMs on numerous occasions. He has now gotten friendly with Anthony and Craig the day before nominations day.

Yes, Derek is very witty, and being British we excuse a lot of unpleasant remarks if they're said in a posh enough voice. But I think the answer is also because BB uses his diary room entries almost as narratives for the show - they appear in every single highlights show. This gives his opinions the air of neutrality/authority when in reality they are skewed to destroying his opponents and advancing him and whatever allies he has this week.

I don't like either of them.

Until recently I did think Derek was amusing from time to time with his one liners but now I just see a nasty little man.

I've not liked Makosi since week 2.

Derek is worse than Makosi, but as he's playing a very clever and manipulative game the public haven't noticed, but they are starting to especially after last night.
Derek winds people up and tells tales then sits back and watches them all act on the information he has fed them. Each week he turns people against each other so that they will all nominate each other and forget about him. He's very crafty and devious.

the only thing Makosi has really done wrong in my view is the pregnancy thing where she made herself look a bit silly, other than that she has just been playing the game and is no where near as devious as Derek.

I like both - but think Makosi accelerated her act too quickly. Derek is a more slow-burning kind of entertainer, and has more variety to his performance.

And before anyone says "oh, you admit they're acting, then", yeah, I do, but I think every HM in there is an actor too. Even dim Anthony and St Science.

I think Makosi has made a few bad choices, but i dislike Derek a great deal more, because he is more sly and cunning. I think it would be a shame to lose Makosi this week, as she still has more entertainment value than most other housemates. I dont think she should win, and i dont think she will win, but i would like her there til the final week. Derek can go at any time. I see no reason to keep him in.

Derek is simply funnier and more entertaining than Makosi. He is also more adept at playing the game. The man has brought and eloquence and style to the two-facedness that is required to survive in the house. The way he has mended fences with craig and anthony whilst reeling in eugene and kemal into his group is an act of tactical brilliance.

I think those expecting Derek to be nominated this week will be disappointed. Craig, Anthony, kemal and eugene will not vote for him, science, orlaith and makosi will. I think we will see Orlaith v Science this week.

makosi started off really well, but has been unable to sustain her mastery of the game. She has shed allies too quickly and is now reduced to dealing with people she mistrusts greatly.

Makosi irritates me because she has become boring, personally I have no problem with her bitching and game-playing, after all that is what BB is all about, and I find the hysterical reactions on here to bitchy comments rather tedious. I find the hateful reaction to her unpleasant, but I do not think that she is deserving a winner as derek.
