How does Derek manage to brainwash people?

I've seen him do this to three different HMs now.We hear Derek state or suggest something to a HM and then a while later we see that HM saying the exact same thing to somebody else as if THEY'VE thought of it

We saw him do it with Kemal when he was saying he ought to confront Orlaith and exactly what he should say ,we saw it with Craig when Derek told him that Science was trying to come between him and Anthony and then we saw it tonight with Eugene nominating,he basically came out with Derek's opinions of who should be up for eviction and why.

HOW DOES DEREK DO IT??Is it NLP or hypnotism or what? It's scary just how easily they are manipulated. Why do they automatically believe what Derek says must be right??

It was interesting in the nominations, to hear Derek nominating Orlaith for the very things he does himself.

I recon he has a special button on his watch, which activates the brain-washing function (it's amazing what Casio are coming up with these days).

Also, Science made a comment in the diary room which I agreed with. He said that Derek brought colour into the argument/discussion, when colour was not an issue.
Derek also brings the fact that he is gay, or some comments about sexual preferences into arguments when not relevant, IMO

Easy..............all the hms except Makosi, Orla and Science are thick as two planks, but Science is the most attuned and switched on to Derek's evil game.

I said that too in the post that was removed for legal reasons today He brings up Sciences colour only when he is insulting him.

How does Derek manage to brainwash people?

Simple.....he's fooled them all into thinking that he's mature, educated and intelligent

With constant, covert inuendo's.

Like a dripping tap, on and on and on and on .........

I think it's because people are snobby and look up to his "educated" manners.

Also for some in the house Derek is a much easier black man for them to deal with because he doesn't confront them with uncomfortable truths. Science does.

I am really starting to admire Science. At his age I hardly had a fraction of the mature insight he has.

I thought tonight's show was a bit disgusting to be honest. Science is becoming isolated by them all - and what for? Being a decent, truthful person, who is a bit loud? (For some).

It seems to me that Derek's comments on Science's supposed poor personal hygiene are a ploy to discredit Science in the viewers' eyes too.

Kemal's reasonably smart though and he fell for it.I know there was some NLP book about how to get people to do what you want.I wonder if he's read it

Think the forcefields in Dune. A fast-moving attack (Science at his loudest) bounces straight off, while the slow blade (Derek) penetrates and wounds.

Kemal may be intelligent but he brings a whole new dimension to the term "gullible" He still thinks Makosi is a mole even when BB have teased the house about it!!

You've certainly hit the nail on the head for me here. Having watched more live feed than I would really like to admit to he is just relentless in his criticisms.

Yeah maybe,I mean how many times has he now said "Science is a liar and a thief".Maybe if he says it enough times people will automatically think "Ah Science=liar+thief" without even stopping to think "Hang on..IS he?"

He's been doing it since day one. He obviously knows the value of sound bites and spin. He doesn't waffle on, he picks one or two comments about another and uses them continuously, changing the wording slightly, but keeping to the same point.

He watches and listens and knows how to target, if someone has a problem with another HM, he remembers that and uses it at a later date if it's useful to him.

When he wanted to turn Craig and Anthony against Orla he used the fact that Orla had slated Saskia after being in the house for 24 hours. He knew that their loyalty to Saskia would make them dislike Orla. It didn't work completely, Craig still didn't nominate Orla, but Anthony, Derek's guaranteed nomination each week, changed his vote to Orla. If Anthony had nominated Derek, he would be up against Science instead this week.

He's very sly, not a nice person at all, when someone confronts him and he knows they are right he walks away. He has manipulated Lesleh, Craig, Roberto, Kemal and Eugene. Each time picking upon who they have a problem with and magnifying it. Everyone likes to think they are in the right and Derek justifies their grievances for them.

I just hope he doesn't win.

He flatters their ego - and then whilst they are basking in the glow of his praise, he follows it up with a few well placed criticisms of his next victim.

This failed slightly with Kemal, because Kemal was too desperate to be back in Makosi's good books and so nominated Allwaif instead of Makosi (which actually benefitted Delboy because otherwise he would have been up for eviction - so maybe it was part of his plan).

I think its just a matter of timing.
Once Makosi noticed Science apparently using to much mincemeat, and then Craig started going on, he pounced.

Telling more and more spin to his intended subjects until they were fully converted.

That is so true. The "liar and a thief" one being a good example.Say it enough times and people accept it without questioning

Basically the rest of the housemates barring Science and possibly Makosi and Orlaith are too stupid to realise what he is doing. He is a nasty piece of work and has the type of characteristics I detest most in a person. After watching Derek, Maxwell doesn't seem so bad.

I just want to see the HM's reaction when they are out of the house and find out what Derek is really like.
