Derek's philosophy is - light the blue touch paper and retire -- then watch the fireworks!

Like Orlaith said... he is a 41 year old man...

They don't expect someone of his age to be so peurile and malicious, in a House of mainly younger people.

You have a point .Derek is closer in age to their fathers than to them so they probably expect him to act more like their fathers than like them.

He's very evidently not a normal man...

When he wanted to turn Craig and Anthony against Orla he used the fact that Orla had slated Saskia after being in the house for 24 hours. He knew that their loyalty to Saskia would make them dislike Orla. It didn't work completely, Craig still didn't nominate Orla, but Anthony, Derek's guaranteed nomination each week, changed his vote to Orla. If Anthony had nominated Derek, he would be up against Science instead this week.

He's very sly, not a nice person at all, when someone confronts him and he knows they are right he walks away. He has manipulated Lesleh, Craig, Roberto, Kemal and Eugene. Each time picking upon who they have a problem with and magnifying it. Everyone likes to think they are in the right and Derek justifies their grievances for them.

I just hope he doesn't win.”

I'm afraid you've hit the nail on the head. After having it on in the background tonight (I've got an addictive new game), it's saddened me to think that I found Derek so amusing and now, watching his character assassination of Science, as well as Science's complete isolation, I find Derek to be the most vile person to ever have been in BB. Craig is coming a close second.

Science is nominated and his fans can't work out why. It must be that Derek who has the powers of hypnotism etc etc etc. Except Derek was the next most nominated person in the house and the least popular - so how did he manage that, eh?. He does not have powers over people.

Maybe Science is the architect of his own nominations. Shouting at people to the point where they ignore him. Not joining in on meal times. Not being prepared to join a group in second position like Anthony or Craig have done at times.

When HMs have slagged off Derek -which they do every five minutes - he has worked it out and dealt with it. Makosi, Kemal, Anthony etc the same. Science is hopeless at playing their game - he may be playing ours but not the HMs and he is paying the price. He is the most unpopular person in the house. It's not someone else's fault. It's his own.

But if his fans are right he has no fears because the public will save him every time. In which case Derek or someone else is not to blame. They are all equal and all responsible for their own status in the house.

Just a moment. When asked a direct question by Anthony (not being slagged by Anthony as you suggested) his way of dealing with it and working it out was to lie blatantly and unashamedly to Anthony's face.

yep orlaith makosi and science are the only ones that realise what he is doing.. and the sad thing is those are the 3 he is gunning for
whoever stays this week will be up against makosi next week. Belive me derek knows exactly how to play mind games with the others...

What? This is nothing to do with not being able to work out why he was nominated It was obvious Science would be up for eviction and nobody is puzzled by it.I only mentioned nominations as that was when one of the three people came out with exact words that Derek had said to them earlier.I am genuinely puzzled by and interested in why they are so easily manipulated by Derek.

I'm tired.
But Derek is a master at massaging ego's.
Say things that people agree with - nice things about them (or their friends e.g. maxwell), rinse & repeat.
then bring up the bad characteristics that these people have, but lay them on someone else (e.g. science).
slip a little poison in, & do it all in a very rational, fatherly s-l-o-w thoughtful reasonable manner.
Very good use of body language & a little of the mirroring technique, very subtly done - not obvious at all.
The man is a politician, political theorist, campaigner etc.
This guy can debate & twist - & he's using his techniques on a bunch of wannabee's & completely egocentric characters who believe that they can do no wrong & that the world revolves around them & he massages their ego's & confirms this belief for them, plus they aren't the brightest bulbs in the pack are they?
I just keep remembering that this is a black man who was involved with groups within the conservative party who actively supported apartheid - every now & again I see his face & that thought jolts me, it amazes me.
I don't know if that is really relevant here, but I believe that it is part of his puzzle - is he so good at manipulating & hypnotising others because he was his own first & greatest victim?
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he didn't exist.

I pray Derek gets what's coming to him when he leaves the house

Yes, it's a gameshow but you don't have to be so vindictive to win . Gosh, this man will sell his own mother to get what he wants . It' not on! I really hope and pray he gets his comeuppance and is not made notorious for his antics by the media by making him some sort of 'z'elebrity

Remember, he is meant to be a real person and could be a work colleague or neighbour of yours

I think he manages by contantly lying to them.It is said if you repeat the lie three times then it becomes the truth. But thanks to Science the dark side of Derek is coming out nicely.

The only people who know what Derek is up to in the hosue are Makosi, Orliath and Science. I hope Makosi and Scince give him a taste of his own medicine soon.

His hypnotic powers don't seem to work on the girls, Derek probably knows all about propaganda etc., repeating things over and over again, I hate the way he speaks slowly, pausing, emphasising things, he's copying Tony Blair

You may have posted that in jest, but I had the same thought.

Derek has a very calm voice like many hypnotists.

Some of the other HMs appear to be quite suggestible.

He is telling them things that they may agree with.

Derek appears to be clever and intelligent, and mysterious.

He has a hypnotic personality.

Has he hypnotised some of the other HMs?

That's exactly what I see too - he flatters their ego and then works on the their weak spots - watch him talking to Craig (he know's how much Craig likes flattery so lays it on an inch thick) and then targets the weak spots. With Craig this is easy - Anthony and Maxwell, make out Science is getting friendly with Anthony and trying to take Maxwell's place and bingo!
He did make a start with getting Craig to dislike Eugene - have you noticed him trying to lure Anthony into his clutches with a selection of refrehsing, hot beverages - cue hissy fit from Craig.
With Kemal he keeps the whole Makosi as a mole scenario going and feeds his uncertainty with a little sprinkling of Orlaith trying to come between them!
As a bonus, come any confronation he manages to escape the blame -- urgh he can't loose with the housemates - just hope he dosen't win and more people than Makosi, Orlaith and Science manage to see him for what he is.

I think Kemal wants the public to think ,that he thinks Makosi is a mole. He is not stupid at all. You see, that way is not really responsible all that much for voting his 'best friend' out. For backstabbing her with Derek.
I think he is sneaky and evil and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Makosi is a goodhearted person and thinks before she says something nasty. I also think she chased him from her bed for this reason. She realises what is up to.
She knows he is playing the public.
As for her bitching. Look at Derek's and Craig's and compare. What is the difference???

He is also good at what he does - don't like him but you've got to admit the way he seems to have made Craig and Anthony forget he was barred from nominating - and got Craig barred too - for talking about Saskia and the whole silent assassin thing (is now even saying he liked Saskia and hadn't got a problem with her!) - is a fine effort!

Kemal should be smart enough to see through Derek, but is riddled with insecurity and paranoia. He thinks too much. Derek finds it quite easy to use those weaknesses.

Kemal is going to be horrified with himself when he looks back on his time in the house. He is wasting the experience.

As well as massaging egos, which is a great tool of manipulation. If you lean into the person you are speaking with and whisper, they tend to believe that you are imparting fact based knowledge and something of value.

Watch how often Derek whispers.

Please also remember, Antony and Craig are not the most
intelligent in the bunch like.
