I cannot understand how a discussion on Big Brother has come to this. It sems to come from a lack of understanding.
No one has the right to say what sexual orientation the other is. If a married guy who loves his wife has sex with a guy - is he gay - of course not. If a guy says he's bisexual - let us respect that that is the description he has of his sexual orientation, with out gettin into an arguement that he's wrong to define himself that way.
back to Big Brother - if someone sems to be stating that we should vote Adele out because she is a lesbian or bisexual, then that is homophobia - it cannot be defended - and I assume that that individual willl be banned form DS, just as someone who makes racist comments would be - for contraveneing the terms and conditions. It is simply not acceptable. ”
First, there are many many gay men married and living otherwise straight lives. Straight and gay and bisexual ARE labels and that is what we use as humans to pigeon hole people into various categories, like it or not, we do, you do, everyone does. It's a simple way we humans do things, and we always will. I am, you are, he is, she is, they are..... whatever.
Many gay ppl are proud to stand up and be labelled. You see, it's a form of identification. It's not intended to be a dirty label which what some ppl assume it is to be labelled as gay, or even bisexual. You ppl would have the whole scene go back in the closet and have the straight community go back to labels like shirt lifters and benders because you think all labels, even gay and queer, are non-pc. I can just see it on the equal opportunities forms. How would you describe yourself... oh no... we can't do that, then we have to have labels for ppl. Hmmm.... maybe we can have symbols instead of words because ppl do not want to label themselves for what they are?
When you are comfortable with your sexuality you will not find the label offensive, altho' you would if you are still having problems with it. Just don't then start telling the world that you are uncomfortable with the label, so we should all stop labelling.... and then what?
As for homophobia, what is all that about? This is not a discussion about homophobia, just your interpretation, why? It did not harm Anna or Brian to be GAY, they didn't mind the label? I for one do not respect or like or dislike any character in the house because they are gay or straight or bisexual or virgins or whatever.
Whatever sexual persuasion you are, go on, give yourself a label, stick it on a poster, live with it, be proud of what you are and stop pussy footing around with intellectual philosophical discussions about the whole unfairness of being pigeon holed.
