According to the above, talks are underway with Elisabeth Sladen to make a come-back to Doctor Who.

I would LOVE to see a modern TV take on Sarah - past companion sharing notes with Rose, how travelling with him has affected her since, etc.

Any thoughts?

She's bringing K9 back with her too! I see the story in two ways;

1/ Sarah Jane has become editor of a boring Chat/Take-a-break type magazine, and is longing for her days as a time-travelling journalist. The Doctor and Rose turn up and remind her of the more adventurous younger self. She quits her job and becomes a proper journalist again.

2/ She's been sectioned, because she kept telling people she's travelled in space and time, and has a robot dog. The Doctor and Rose have to rescue her.

Ha! Def number 2! Love it

Or she's a millionaire after the Doctor dropped her back a few years early and she won a mint at the bookies...

She can leave K9 well-and-truly kennelled. The creakiness of the prop would be completely out of place in whizzbang new Who.

All that business with running down corridors very slowly so as not to overtake it .. no-one would accept that now. What does K9 actually do? Nothing that the sonic screwdriver can't do, except look cute. And "cuteness" is somethign that new Who can well do without.

Bring back SJ any day of the week. The ultimate Dr Who girl (until Rse came along...), and Lis Sladen is a superb actor. K9? No thanks.

I think you should change your newssource Kasterborous.com posted this a full month before! (http://www.kasterborous.com/default....ge=news&id=317)
- OG is notoriously creaky these days with sites such as Kasterborous and Unitnews bringing news out as they get it.

Outpost Gallifrey is overrated.

Late about what?

I was interested in people's opinions on the matter - not reporting news.

Oh alright then
Lis Sladen is the lovliest lady in the world and Sarah Jane was the uber-companion. The had everything, which is why as it has been mentioned elsewhere she was part of the golden-age of Doctor Who. And I'm only 29, I don't remember her as a companion, I've got memories of Tegan and Peri etc. But watching videos of The Seeds of Doom, Ark in Space, Genesis of the Daleks, she is fantastic in every episode - pretty much like Billie Piper in that respect...

K-9 will be totally CGI if he's in the new series. I bet he can change shape, fly and have torpedoes rather than that crap laser nose thing. I met a woman the other day who's maiden name was Sarah-Jane Smith. I asked if she realised the relevance and she did - apparantly, she'd been like a mini celeb in the 70s.

I think technology has progressed far enough to eliminate the possibility of the remote control car-derived prop (whose batteries are now dead anyway, according to another thread, which I can't be bothered to find at this precise moment!)

Tom Baker commented once on the difficulties of filming a two-shot with K-9, well now I don't see how he can't hover at the actors' head height, and be jet-propelled to boot!

In fact, I can't see why we couldn't have a proper robot dog, which can actually run (dig the Walking With Dinosaurs software out, Russell, you only need a new dog model )

It will be nice to see an old companion or two just to see how they have got on. Sarah is the obvious one as she is held in such affection by fans.

A few cannot be done, Jamie and Zoe had their memories wiped apart from their first adventure, Katarina and Adric died and a few others hae passed away in real life (Jacqueline Hill, Michael Craze).

Wasn't Ian Chesterton slatted for the teacher role in Mawdryn Undead but William Russell's unavailabilty handed the role to The Brigadier. This rather skewed the timeline of the Unit stories?

Says who? That's the first time this has been reported anywhere.

As for what has happened to Sarah Jane, ISTR a DWM a few years ago had a whole story about how she had become a very prolific scifi writer with a series of novels about her adventures with the Doctor (all made out to be fiction, of course)

it will be interesting to see what they do with the character - I'm looking forward to seeing her again. Hopefully she'll be in a couple of stories.

I interviewed the guy who created K-9 a few years ago when he was in talks to give K-9 a brand new spin-off series all of his own. They even got to the art-work stage for K-9's new design for the series. The idea - at that time - was to have a CGI K-9 with lots of new powers.

Do you remember how Hong Kong Fuey's car used to change shape? Well, it was something along the lines of that. The series didn't happen in the end, but I am kind of assuming that if they bring K-9 back now, they'll want to do it in the same way.

I could be wrong - it would be quite 'retro' to have him back exactly as he was, trundling slowly along and getting stuck on gravel paths.

Unless they bring him back as he was, until half way through the episode when they suddenly reveal all his upgrades.

You should never assume - it makes an ass out of "u" and me!

K9 was crap in the 70's (but not as bad as McCoys doctor ) so leave him there! SJS probably would have flogged him on EBay by now anyway!

Think the new costume really suits David Tennant... Didn't think he'd look right in the leather jacket.

great news, It would be good to see Rose deal with the fact she is only the latest of many. How many episodes is Sarah Jane in? My initial thoughts would be one or two.

I guess the plan of RTD to make the stories more "human" based is continuing in series 2.

..but he looks like someone who has spent the night sleeping in the gutter after an extremely heavy night on special brew.

Hey, it's geek chic. Perfect for the Doctor if you ask me.

Problematical though McCoy's spell as the Doctor was - mainly due to the late John Nathan-Turner - he wasn't as bad as the robodog from hell, surely?

It will be cool to see the two best-ever Companions in harness together though

I cannot imagine your bondage fantasies will be realised, so forget it.

Oh, I see what you mean now. Silly me

Oh please - have you seen Katy Manning recently? She would possibly pass as a Sea Devil...

Sorry that was harsh, but I think soemone has been "augmented".

I'm not surprised ES has gone for it - I reckon we'll see a lot more depth to her character now - regrets, recriminations, etc.

Something the old series would never have gone near in depth.
