IMO, the reason why this series has been so dire, is that for the last two series, the producers have been obsessed with playing the gay and ethnic cards, and they have merely tried to recreate BB5's succesful formula without either the characters or the tasks. They have failed miserably, this year, on all counts IMHO.

Now, before I get jumped upon, I'm not saying that both groups should not be represented: I am most definitely not. What I am saying, however, is that we should keep things in perspective, and not overload the house with one particular group or another: and I'm including white, blonde, heterosexuals in that comment, as we've also had a propensity of them in previous series!

For example: Marco last year, was he entertaining? IMO, no. All he did was sit in the jacuzzi all day, bitch, screech, and flap around like a Seal on acid.

Likewise, Kemal this year. Entertaining? No, the guy is just a clothes horse. An imitation of Nadia, and a poor one at that.

One has only to look at this years contestants, and you can point to their mirror image in BB5:

Anthony = a pocket sized Jason (on Mogadon)
Craig = Marco (with turbo mince attachment)
Derek = Dan (everyone's favourite uncle - not)
Kemal = Nadia (without her good points - no pun intended.)
Lesley = Emma (need I say more? They make 2 short plank's look like a super computer!)
Makosi = Ahmed (the token immigrant with delusions of grandeur)
Mary = Shell (yet another tree hugger!)
Roberto = Stuart (Pretty boy with much the same grasp of the English language!)
Sam = Michelle (their recent career path's say it all)
Saskia = Vanessa (Eye candy for the boys)
Science = (The poor man's )Victor.

Vanessa & Maxwell, however, are unique this year. The closest comparison that I could find for Max is Federico (BB4) As for Vanessa, she embodies the entire cast of BB4: i.e, sleep,dress up, eat, drink and.......er, that's it.

No offense but I think you comparisons are way off..

Your post made me chuckle. But Science has far more integrity than Victor but unfortunately not as articulate. Very witty both of them but with Victor being more premeditated.

How on earth can you equate Makosi with the embarrassingly inadequate Ahmed?
Clutching at straws, methinks.

Calm down dear, it's only a thread

That's a strange one - "token immigrant"? Kemal's Turkish and Roberto was Italian!

Plus, Mary wasn't a tree hugger, she was a witch. And Shell wasn't really a tree hugger anyway.

Sorry, I was calm. But any mention of Ahmed brings me out in a rash.

So does that sodding catchphrase, btw!

It's probably best not to analyse any of them, then they work quite well! "Oh, yeah, it's exactly like BB5!"

Deja Vu anybody?

I agree with your sentiments, but not all your comparisons.

Anthony = nowt like Jason, more like Stuart.
Craig = Marco (with turbo mince attachment) agree
Derek = Dan had redeeming qualities - Derek has none
Kemal = Nadia - agree
Lesley = Reminds me more of Justine
Makosi = I think she's a definite (g)one off
Mary = Shell was pretty and nice. Mary reminded me of Lisa
Roberto = Reminds me a bit of Federico (posing pouch on legs) except he had more personality.
Sam = More like Shell or Nush. Easy on the eye.
Saskia = More like Michelle - without the sleaze.
Science = (The poor man's ) Victor?? So Victor was the "rich man's" Science??? Only one I flatly disagree with. Science was an original.... Victor was just a stereotype.

Good post though zimmy

But, you must admit, Victor could hold a conversation without raising the decibel limit to that of a Motorhead concert

Because they're both gay? Wash your mouth out!!! Derek isn't fit to lick Dan's boots either as a human being or a housemate.

I agree with your sentiments, but not all your comparisons.

I agree with some of yours, but I was merely making comparisons with BB5 you'll notice

I can't agree with the Sci/Vic one though. They're BOTH stereotypes IMO, and I find it very tragic

Victor was a middle-class (his mother was a teacher) university graduate with a (constructed) gangsta persona. I fail to see how he resembles Science at all.

I like Science but dont compare him to the great Victor. I'd say Victor is most similar to maxwell, but for some reason I hated maxwell despite similarities

You could have a point. I strongly disliked them both.

Most were pretty good though.

Fed = East End Glasgow (?)
Max = East End London

Pretty much the same thing as far as the middle class Media Studies berks from Boreham Wood are concerned

Incidentally, I notice that in his current article on this site Fed describes himself as "a working-class East End of Glasgow boy". He comes from a reasonably prosperous background, doesn't he?
