What happened last night???

I'm extremely disappointed that Science was evicted last night, but I'd like to know the answer to one question, why didn't Davina mention how close it was?

It was the closest vote in BB history yet not once did Davina allude us to this. On previous occasions she has been quick to tell us how tight the vote is, when Derek beat Roberto 47-53 she mentioned it several times, which leads to me to this theory.

I feel that she only mentions how close it is when the vote is close percentage-wise but not vote-wise. 53-47 seems close but in reality there was proabaly a big gulf which couldn't have been made up in 20 minutes. 50.5-49.5 could have been made up, however. So why didn't she mention how close it was? They must have been happy with the result, Science fans are a passionate lot and they may have feared a swing, so they kept schtum, suggesting that they definitely wanted him out.

This is such a shame as I felt he would have been the perfect winner. Someone who went against the gang, someone who was brutally honest, someone who was on a journey and someone who needed the money. I saw him up there with Brian, Kate and Nadia, and the others, in the winners' circle, it would have been brilliant, but it ain't happening now.

I become more and more cynical about Big Brother every year and I have never been more disappointed with a result, and I've been a fan since BB1.

Apologies for the length of the post, I just needed to get this off my chest...

But he didn't make the journey though did he !! - he had ample opportunity to begin to transform himself from the uncompromising tough guy from "the street" into a more "easy-going" "give & take" "mature" likeable guy........ we all love to see the "tough" guy from the "street" making good of himself, but he wouldn't back down and compromise - rather he carried on with childish tantrum after tantrum - admitedly, some of his "attitude" and "perspectives" on things were amusing (I found him amusing on a whole host of occasions, and he did bring some entertainment to the house and I thank him for that) - but there comes a time when people want to hear some sensible, easy-going conversation, and with Science this was too often lacking.

i understand how you feel.

i think through some mathematical manipulation, they have acknowledged how close it was, but not told how close it really was.

i think there was a few hundred votes in it personally and this was why a lot of text votes for orla were rejected & why the closeness of the result was never disclosed till later.

also people should bear in mind that over a £1,000,000 was gambled on this eviction over at betfair, most of this coming from people in the know (i.e. endemol workers). they were certainly looking at a very costly night for themselves as they backed science at very low odds to be evicted.

They're fair comments but I'm adamant that no housemate in there now is better than him.

He may not have won but atleast he can enjoy the title of best housemate never to win Big Brother.

Exactly, the poor guy never stood a chance, the question is....is this the first time that a housemate has been unfairly evicted or does it happen regularly?

I read a comment on Popbitch in which someone said "If what I've heard is correct, even the 2 million votes that came in during Thursday's highlights won't save him." I really want to know what that meant.

Yes, he undoubtedly has a certain "entertainment value" - his "novel" perceptions of the world, and more importantly, the way he expressed them with his accent and look etc were often amusing - I certainly think there's space for him in the British showbiz world if he wants that - just a bit more "give & take" and he would have done better in the house - good luck to him.

She did mention percentages in the post-eviction interview, or tried to, but it got lost in the general studio din, and I don't think Science really registered what she was saying about how close it was.

What happened last night is what's been happening all series - the favourite to go at the start of the week ended up staying.

How many "surprise" evictions can we have before it becomes clear that it is not the ordinary public who is deciding, but a betting syndicate?

Betting odds are changing before information is made public, so it would seem likely that there is insider information being given to people who are then placing bets - placing bets on something, the outcome of which they can help to determine.

If Anthony was up against Orlaith next week, he would go. But it would be another "surprise".

A woman beating a man in a straight head-to-head is a suprise, whatever else you think, since it tends to happen with the frequency with which Halley's Comet flies past the earth

Davina did say how close it was only half percent, pityit wasn't the other way then we wouldn't be having the crocodile tears of Orlaith - should I stay or should I go now!!

i agree with you partly in that is clear to anyone who is following the betting that there is clearly inside info and people are using that, however i would disagree that the outcome has been manipulated to produce to certain result to win money. that is untill last night.

for there is no way science should have been the odds he was if it was that close, unless it had been decided that science as going to be evicted regadless.

Exactly, she didn't say it during the first show when the lines were still open, if she had there may have been a swing in Science's favour, they clearly didn't want that so they say nothing...

From everything I've ever read about BB I doubt if they got 2 million votes during one highlight show.

Wrong! The history books will state that for the first time in BB history a housemate was put out instead of voted out, in unfair circumstances. You know it happened, there is no way that Orlaith REALLY beat Science....

Just as in 1975 Bayern Munich unfairly beat Leeds in the European Cup final! I'm Still mad about that.

What do you people want????????? The eviction was decided on a public vote - and thats it.
The loser (Science) LOST - The winner (ORLAITH) WON!
Move on folks - Have you forgotten it's a Game Show with £100,000 at stake!

Bloody hell, I'm with you there!! That was a definite penalty when Alan "Sniffer" Clarke got hacked down in the box. These mis-carriages of justice...must be a "Leeds" thing...

Who knows, maybe when it's all said and done Science will become a BB legend. He was soooo popular, yes he was disliked by loads, but surely he is the most popular never to win, anyways it's done now...

So you clearly believe that a housemate that was a newcomer, that was boring and that was a woman beat someone as loved as Science!!! If this was anyone else then there wouldn't be an uproar. Who likes Orlaith!!!

I think that if the viewers were made to vote Science would have walked it.

I think that the vast majority of people were voting in relation to Science, either for him or against him and weren't really thinking of Orlaith. I think that Science has many redeeming qualities but his high level arguing was getting to me so I didn't feel motivated to vote for him. If I'd been forced to vote I would have voted for Orlaith to go. I do feel that something interesting has left the house

Yeah. it happened against AC Milan in the Cup Winners Cup too, in '73. The ref was later carpeted by UEFA for his disgraceful decisions, but they wouldn't replay the match.
