23-07-2005
The BBC Press Office yesterday confirmed that a first batch of Big Finish audios
(Big Finish)
will be broadcast on BBC 7!

------------------------------------------------------

Coming your way on BBC 7:
Digital network BBC 7 features
a wealth of great comedy and
drama throughout August.

Among the highlights:
Paul McGann stars as the much-loved
Time Lord in four new Doctor Who
adventures. The stories (each in four
parts) begin with Storm Warning on
Saturday 6 August and feature guest stars
including sci-fi legend Gareth Thomas
(who played Blake in Blake's 7), The
League Of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss and
Spaced's Simon Pegg and Jessica
Stephenson. And listen out for the return
of the classic villains - the Cybermen!

------------------------------------------------------

Doctor Who - Storm Warning Ep 1/4
Saturday 6 August
6.30-7.00pm BBC 7
repeated
Sunday 7 August
12.30-1.00am BBC 7

BBC 7 goes time travelling in Doctor Who - Storm Warning.
Russell T Davies's Doctor Who has recently finished a successful run
on BBC One with the ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, at the
helm of the Tardis. Now BBC 7 takes a step back in time to
welcome The Doctor's eighth persona, as played by Paul McGann,
in four new four-part adventures, beginning with Storm Warning.
After a dangerous encounter in the space/time vortex,The Doctor
finds himself on Earth in October 1930 . or rather, above it,
aboard the British airship R101 on its maiden voyage over France.
Also on board is a young stowaway, Charlotte "Charley" Pollard,
seeking adventure and excitement away from her stifling family
atmosphere. What Charley doesn't know, but The Doctor does, is
that the flight is destined to end in tragedy, although no one really
knows why, not even The Doctor, although maybe the passenger in
Cabin 43 can help.
Paul McGann reprises the role he played in the 1996 Anglo-
American TV movie of Doctor Who. These stories on BBC 7 tell the
tale of what happened next.
Storm Warning also stars Gareth Thomas (Blake, from Blake's 7).

Do I presume that they will lead up to his regeneration into Chris Eccleston?

I'm pleased, but am surprised that the BBC is airing Big Finish productions.

That press release doesn't seem to be on the BBC web site and Big Finish doesn't seem to be mentioning it either. Can you tell us where you got it?

The first part is in
BBC Radio Week 32 Features
and the second part is in
BBC Radio Saturday 6 August

Thanks for that. I am sorry to have been suspicious. Unfortunately we do get the odd bullshitter in here from time to time.

Anyway, this is great news. In the past Big Finish productions have been restricted to quite a small audience. Now all Dr Who fans can have a listen.

BBC7 - damn!

Can you get that online, I wonder - like some of the other digital stations?

*Goes off to check*

EDIT: Yes it is streamed online! And there's a "listen again" page as well, so with a bit of luck DW will be on there, meaning you don't need to be tied down!

The 'listen again' feature is very handy. Actually it's pretty amazing the range and choice of radio stations and features BBC radio has. Well worth the license fee ... she said in a Points of View type way

No.

These are edited versions of a series of plays that Paul McGann did for Big Finish Productions back in 2001.

The stories that will be broadcast are;
Storm Warning
Sword of Orion
The Stones of Venice
- these three are from the first series he did for them (the fourth story 'Minuet in Hell' isn't being broadcast and as this ties up one part of a story arc, all reference to this is being removed from the three that are being shown - which also resolves some of the timing issues as the slots are 29 minutes)

The final story to be broadcast, is the first story from the second series, he did in 2002 called Invaders from Mars (a kind of 'War of the Worlds' Radio Broadcast type pastiche)

More info on all these can be found by clicking the story titles above.

All pretty good adventures really, and a great coup for Big Finish to get some exposure on Radio

Excellent news. Paul McGann is a good doctor. OK so the movie has its bad points, but McGann was good in it I thought.

Does anyone know when season two is being broadcast on bbc7, as big finish have already put up season two ready for pre-ordering on their website?

Not sure if it is going to be or at least not until the Cds have been released.

I couldn't tell you where on the net, probably on one of the DW sites but I could have sworn I read that they were being broadcast early in the new year.

I started a thread here saying that but then found out I was wrong and they were going straight to CD.

AIUI, the first series with Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith was commissioned by BBC7 with Big Finish releasing them later on CD. The CDs were successful enough for Big Finish to decide to produce a second series without BBC7.

Ya big tease, is he coming back for the s4 finale then? The lead up episodes will probably be broadcast in June.
Or will we see a degeneration back to 8 from 10 for the '09 special. June could be when they start filming.

Pretty confident that EOH knows nothing, and is just trying to start a rumor here.

How so?

A quick Google search tells us that there are new Big Finish audios out monthly from next month, it could just be that Junes one is immense and worth talking about.
