I think she will only stay for the rest of her current contract, so the 2006 christmas special she will leave the show. I hope by this time they introduce a new companion for the doctor, so that even if she does stay it freshens things up a little.

Yes, by then, the new K9 will be in place

Billie Piper is great in the role, but I have concerns over the equal billing emphasis of the Doctor and companion. Two series is probably the limit a companion should stay. Having Rose get to know the new Doctor should keep things fresh.

Unless their relationship cools over the 2nd series, it's hard to see why Rose should leave Doctor voluntarily. Or perhaps they'll do the old .... she falls instantly in love with a guy she's just met and they go off to live happily ever after.

I could also do without any more 'domestic' scenes i.e. Jackie and Mickey in the 2nd series

Yes I agree. I'm not sure where it has been mentioned that she will be in the 2006 Christmas special though (as mentioned above). Her contract is only until the end of series 2 and the 2006 Christmas episode will be part of serie3 (and the first in HD probably!)

Anyway, I think she should go at the end of series 2. I agree that she is good but I'm not quite as bowled over by her as most other people seem to be. She'd certainly be in my top 10 of best assistants but she wouldn't be number 1.

The new companion should be phased in towards the end of series two and overlap Billie as they always did in the past. Captain Jack would be great as a companion full time. Doesnt have to be a girl all the time. Having K9 back would be interesting but probably a mistake!

Well, not always!

Please, please, please DON'T bring back K9. The tongue-in-cheek audacity of endlessly calling assistant Lalla Ward "Mistress" soon became very stale - and after that, the silly voice just got on my nerves. Anyway, there is bound to be someone who will object to the naïve use of the expression Mistress, and I for one just can't be bothered to listen to the rantings of a whole new flock of aggressive feminists protesting about next to nothing.

What I would like to know is whatever became of Lalla - I thought she was very fanciable... [Yes - I know she married the Doctor - Tom Baker. I meant after that...]

And please - although we do need blokes in the story, please can we keep the principal assistant - FEMALE!

I reckon she'll be gone by Christmas 2006. She seems to have been persuaded to stay on for another full season - but I think that'll be it.

And I think that she'll have run her course by then. We have had so much exposure of her personal side already, I don't think there'll be much further to go after another season. Nothing against BP - she's great, but there must be a limit to exploring how her travels have affected her and her nearest and dearest.
