Ok, well I heard some stuff yesterday which came apparently from a convention or a show over the weekend.

A friend of mine went to a "thing" whatever you want to call them in Essex over the weekend, and said there was a chap called Ben Winder who is something to do with scripts and continuity. Aparently the chap was a bit of a soft touch and was talking about aspects of the new series of Doctor Who, but was reported not to have been invited. And rather abruptly forced to shut up by some BBC guy.I have not put spoilers on this as I know that although my friend told me the truth I dont know if this guy was actually associated with the series. The only thing that leads me to think he is was that apparently is struck others in the crowd tpo be a bit drunk, and the guy they moved him away from the crowd rather abruptly was definately from the BBC.

Anyway onto the alledged story:-

Apparently series 2 focus'es on origins, with flashbacks to earlier series and snipets of extra knowledge from the Doctors past.

3 old stories would continue in this series from older Doctors stories, none was elaberated on except a cybermen story it was upon reaching this part of his speil that Ben was taken to one side. Apparently what prompted this was a question about a the theme, someone passed comment that they were looking forward to the theme as they heard it on Chris Moyles show and it sounded great, however upon showing they chopped the start off. Ben said this was because it was exclusivley "cybermen" in its origin. He said that the full original draft of the theme by Murrray Gold would be heard once in the first Cybermen story as cybermen burst from London sewers. Ben claims this first story continues on from the Invasion with a small army of Cybermen left in the sewars. He also mentioned a fight between Invasion style Cybermen and Earthshock onwards style cybermen, and that the doctor would be dumbstruck as someone from his distant or recent pass was taken by the cybermen and converted into a new breed, but did not elaborate as to whether this was the first or second cybermen story.

Thats it not a great snippet, but I felt I had to write it in case it turned out to be 100% on the record, I would have regretted not writing it.

Apparently the other rumour circulating was that an episode called School Reunion may feature an old Doctor.

If this is true, who do you think it will be? My money is on Peter Davison.

The whole business about Cyermen being left in the sewers has been before, hasn't it?

I have my doubts about "flashbacks to earlier series" but maybe they will do this. I'd live to see a "Trials and Tribbilations" type episode, though - I think this is the only way they could have the Doctor meet up with one of his predecessors, really as none of them looks like they did when they were the Doctor (apart from Paul McGann of course! )

If they were planning any old Doctor to return, wouldnt they select Tom?

But he no longer looks anything like he did when he was the Doctor.

No, neither does the other Baker (Colin).

In fact, Davison, McGann or McCoy could return, but it would be nice to see McGann have another go at the role, even if it was "retrospectively." I thought he was very underused.

But he has said he thinks DT will make an excellent Doctor, so he might well be keen to come back for an episode....

This has been posted on outpost gallifrey, it is supposed to be a beeb press release for use in tomorrows papers:

Filming Is Underway For Series Two Of Doctor Who

David Tennant today steps into the role of the tenth Time Lord, as filming commences on the highly anticipated Christmas special and second series of Doctor Who for BBC ONE.

Billie Piper returns as the Doctor’s feisty young companion, Rose Tyler, and together they will travel through time and space battling new and returning aliens and monsters.

David Tennant says of his striking new look: “I think we’ve come up with something distinctive that’s both timeless and modern, with a bit of geek chic and of course, a dash of Time Lord! Most importantly Billie tells me she likes it – after all she’s the one who has to see me in it for the next nine months! ”

Billie Piper, who will star alongside Tennant in the Christmas special and all 13 episodes in series two, says: “I’m thrilled to be stepping back into the role of Rose. We plan to make series two even bigger and better and challenge the viewers’ imaginations like never before. Wait until you get a load of the new doctor!”

Russell T Davies, writer and Executive Producer, adds: “We were delighted and honoured by the first series' success, and we can promise new thrills, new laughs, new heartbreak, and some terrifying new aliens. The Doctor and Rose are destined to meet Queen Victoria, an evil race of Cat Women, and the dreaded Cybermen. 2006 is going to be scarier than ever!”

Filming of the 60 minute Christmas episode kicks off in London and continues in various locations across Wales, predominantly in Cardiff. Christmas becomes a time of terror for Planet Earth, as the whole of mankind falls under the shadow of the alien Sycorax. Rose needs the Doctor's help, but can she trust a man with a new face?

More..

Camille Coduri returns as Rose’s mum Jackie and Noel Clarke as Mickey. Penelope Wilton returns as Harriet Jones in the Christmas Special. Anthony Head (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Little Britain) and Adam Garcia (Coyote Ugly, Saturday Night Fever The Musical) are now confirmed to star in series two. Elisabeth Sladen resumes her role as the iconic character Sarah Jane Smith; remembered by a whole generation of Doctor Who fans as the assistant to both Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker.

The Christmas Special will be screened later this year and series two is scheduled for spring 2006. Writers include Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Toby Whithouse, Tom Macrae, Matt Jones and Stephen Fry. The directors include James Hawes, Euros Lyn and Graeme Harper.

The producer is Phil Collinson; Executive producers are Head of Drama, BBC Wales, Julie Gardner and Russell T Davies.

Fantastic - thanks for posting that JCR.

I'm glad Euros Lynn is returning, and Steven Moffat. And I can't tell you how happy I am that Mark Gatiss will be writing another episode, The Unquiet Dead being one of my top episodes from last series. Just wishing they had given him a couple to write this time, but no worries.

It will be interesting to see what Stephen Fry comes up with.

This announcement really has got me excited all over again and I can't wait for some new episodes to air.

Yes it is - I did start getting a little bit fed up of hearing how Eccleston didn't watch the original series because the actors were too posh!

It's also good to see Graeme Harper getting a shot in the Directors chair. He's from the "old school" having directed The Caves Of Androzani and The Revelation Of The Daleks (recently released on DVD) - both great episodes from Davison's and C Baker's time respectively.

Yes, I remember they announced that "Golden ('oldie') Graeme" was returning a while back. It will be interesting to see what he can do with all of the new technology and budget that they have available for the new series.

It was interesting to see on the Revelation of the Daleks DVD that he did most of his directing on the studio floor. That was quite rare in those days as the Director tended to spend his time in the studio gallery.

I think this is a sign that he is better suited to single-camera direction so the format of the new series will suit him down to the ground.

Any description or photos of Tennant's new look?

I had the impression that the great 'time war' (that saw the Daleks and Time Lords destroyed) happened while the Doctor was still in his Paul McGann body - and that he regenerated into Christopher Eccleston as a result of the war.

So if we're going to have flashbacks, maybe it will be showing what exactly happened during the Time War that lead to the McGann/Eccleston regeneration.

I love the sound of the Cybermen episode - and Sarah Jane comes back too! I hope she isn't the person from the Doctor's past who gets turned into a Cyberman, though.

I must be one of the few McGann Doctor fans out here. Sure, the TV movie had its flaws -- actually, retrospectively, after seeing the new series, it looks even worst than it did at the time -- but I think McGann had the making of a great Doctor, in the traditional mold. I've greatly enjoyed his Big Finish appearances.

It would be great to see him in the new series. But how likely is that, do you think?

He certainly would be the actor most likely to be able to look like he looked when he played the Doctor last ...

Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing Peter Davison but he, like all of us, has aged since he last played the Doctor...

Actually, I'm not sure if all this "harking back" to the old stuff is such a good idea. One thing I was very pleased about with the new series was that they, to a great extent, jettisoned much of the old continiuty (or at least, ignored it as much as possible, not going into too much detail about it) and I'm sure that increased the accessibility for non-fans and/or new fans.

I think referring back to the old series might help the BBC coffers, it would sell more of the older DVDs.

I am excited about Sarah Jane being back in the series. If there is a school reunion, I could see Tom Baker & Sarah Jane turn up, and David Tennant and Rose turn up.

Thanks for that. From what I can see, I got married in a suit that looks like his jacket way back in 1978!
