C4 Replay Removed!
bennat
25-07-2005
There I was saying how HC was heading in a posotive direction with the addidtion of ITV on REPLAY and the new REMINDER option and now they go and remove C4 from their REPLAY LINEUP!!!!!!!
It really seems to be 1 step forward 2 steps back!
Bring on the end of my 12 months so i can get NTL!!!!!

Well there haven't been any C4 programmes on replay for weeks, so there's no point still showing it as a replay channel.

Yes, it's a shame but all that was ever on there was Hollyoaks and Location, Location, Location...

Well considering there wasnt a great deal of C4 content I dont see what the issue is , especially now they have added ITV and loads more BBC content.

I couldnt be without HC now.

I think the issue is that the removal of the replay service for C4 shows that HC are moving in the wrong direction. Many previous discussion threads have sought more replay on C4 not less.

This is maybe another indication that HC are not able to offer what the customers want despite their obvious 'superb technological package'. It seems to me that HC are in danger of becoming irrelevant in the near future given the advancements made by the major competitors!

Remember the days when HC did have C4 Replay service? The only programmes you got are Property Ladder part 1, Property Ladder part 2, Property Ladder revisited...

Indiekid that still dosn't address the point as to why C4 replay has been removed. Polly_Perkins might be content with her BBC but C4 has plenty of programmes that on the face of it should/could be VOD.

There was an expectation some time ago that property ladder etc.. was the beginning of a C4 replay service not the end.

I'm surprised that more forum members are not adressing the lack of replay service on C4 rather than accepting it's apparent demise surely this is a step in the wrong direction as properly advocated by bennat.

There is an article in this weeks Broadcast magazine about NTL VOD, apparently according to them they are very close to signing a deal with both ITV and C4 for replay content. Im hoping this is the same for HC and they will launch a new C4 replay service. I sure hope so anyway.

Well if we had C4 replay now what we would be replaying? Big Brother? Big Brothers Little Brother? Because thats all thats on everytime I look.

Oddly enough the VOD content ended at the same time BB started.

With only one or two programmes to choose from, maybe HC thought the C4 VOD menu was too embarrassing that it would look better for them without it!

I suspect it is licensing issue that limited the content of C4 replay programmes, which mean all non C4 produced programmes cannot be replayed. But then there had been a number of quality C4 documentaries which had never been selected in VOD...

That's not quite true is it Polly? As of tonight my tv schedule suggests that there is a programme called "Hitlers children."

Sunday at 8pm shows that there is a four part series called "warlords."

On Monday there is a progeamme that BBC lover Polly may well want replayed at 9pm called
"the house of obsessive compulsives."

may i suggest that a replay service on channel 4 may avoid the need to watch Big Brother

Furthermore in reply to Indiekids comments (often stated by others without foundation!) I would be surprised if there was a licensing issue with a programmes such as this given the items that are currently being replayed on BBC.

For what it's worth, I emailed Homechoice and asked:

"There are no programmes on Channel 4 replay - has this been discontinued?"

3 days later I received this reply from them:

"It looks as though the licences for the programs that were on Channel 4 Replay have run out. Hopefully, we should be adding more Replay content for this channel in the near future."

That doesn't explain why they let the licences expire, but at least suggests that it will return eventually.

Silly me thought adults would occupy this forum without the need to get insulting when someone disagreed with them.

Guess I was wrong.

My point is that for me personally Channel 4 on replay doesnt add a huge contribution in terms of getting all upset about now its gone. Im much happier to have ITV and the BBC channels on replay rather than a handful of BBC shows and a couple of Channel 4 shows which we had previously.

Of course it would be nice to have all channel content on replay. You have named 2 shows for VOD from a 24/7 broadcaster, the current offering from Channel 4 isnt great and after Big Brother ends perhaps that will change.

It could be coming back - though whether it will be on the chargeable service or replay remains to be seen.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds38397.html

Over 2.8 million subscribers to ntl Telewest's digital TV service will soon be able to view on-demand content from Channel 4, following the announcement of a three-year deal between the cable provider and the channel.

Shows such as Shameless, Queer As Folk, Drop The Dead Donkey and Jamie's School Dinners will be available as part of ntl Telewest's library of programmes.

Ntl Telewest says the content will be refreshed on a regular basis and will include a seven day free catch-up service for the majority of Channel 4's primetime TV schedule, including Hollyoaks, Family Brat Camp, Goldplated and Deal or No Deal.

(Before anyone comments - I know this refers to NTL/Telewest but, from what I can remember, when they launched the pay service Homechoice followed a week later...)

C4I and ITV have nothing to do with eachother. They're not even the same type of channel (not-for-profit public service channel v's commercial channel)
