When you do a full rescan the machine loses it's memory of any timers you have set and also the epg that it downloads. This means that it has to be reprogrammed afterwards and if you use the epg to set your timers you will have to wait for it to download it all beforehand.

It DOES NOT delete any recordings already on the HDD.

Hi Tetra, I meant that the scheduled recording library was lost and the epg, the recordings which i wanted before the evening download I carried out manualy, although I didn't have any channel 5 data for a few days, and no the recordings were not deleted, even though I backed them all to ram.
Everything is now as it should be.

Has anyone got the 'info' function to work on the DMREH60D EPG?
I bought mine ages (a year plus ?) ago, and in the box was a leaflet that said this feature would be activated at a later date. I've seen a couple of software updates but none seem to activate this...

TIA

Xabulous - if you don't get digital already how are you using the recorder?

It does have an analogue tuner as well.

Nobody seems to have mentioned yet that it looks like we are getting software version 1.13 from Thursday.

Imformed by my machine that the download was successful, anyone with any ideas of what it's supposed to do?

The ES20D has also been updated to version 1.13 and guess what?
Nobody seems to know what this 'upgrade' has achieved either

I'm new to this service and this is my first post! I have had my DMR-EH60DEBS (anyone know what the DEBS stands for?) for almost a year now. Overall I find it an excellent machine with excellent picture quality with only a few little niggles from my point of view (slow response to controls, lack of programme info available on 'guide' page etc).

But I do have one real irritation- can anyone help please? Currently I am using 4:3 TV and I prefer to use the E60 in 4:3 'letterbox' mode. The problem is that it 'forgets' the letterbox setting, usually overnight. When accessed, the appropriate setup menu still shows 'letterbox' as the setting but I have to press 'ok' and 'return' to make it take effect again.

This is really annoying me and that's nothing to what my wife says about it! I've searched the thread with no luck - can anyone offer a view (possibly even a faulty machine - but everything else seems to be perfect)?

By the way v1.13 downloaded successfully over the weekend and this hasn't made any difference.

Hi John, can't help you I'm afraid as I use 16.9, which seems to be fine.
You could always try panasonic tech enquiries

“Loss of 'letterbox' setting”

I first reported this problem on this thread way back in October 2005:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...86#post5767986

Unfortunately there is no way around the bug. I ended up setting mine to 16:9 and forcing the TV to do the letterbox every time I use it. I have also purchased a Topfield since then. This machine cannot do letterboxing correctly (although this is partly due to broadcasters choices) and so is set 16:9 also.

Just taken delivery of the big brother of the 60, dmrex 95, it looks like panasonic have learned a few lessons from this machine, tuner still active even with recordings set, dont't have to create chapters when you stop watching part way through a recording are the 2 main things I've found so far.

I think version 1.13 has succeeded in sorting out the volatile profile issue. I got it to work by unplugging the machine for 10 minutes after the upgrade and then restarting.

Go to EPG;
Use yellow button to change profile;
Select a station from the new profile;
On the information bar which appears briefly at the bottom of the screen for the new station, and also when you press the i button, the right hand side shows the name of the new profile. While the information band is visible press the blue button - the enabled profile will cycle through the complete list. If you now look again at the EPG it will show the last selected profile.

This profile now appears to be permanent until changed.

D= Digital Tuner

EB = Made for UK territory

S = Silver

The letterbox switching issue is probably more an issue of how your particular TV is responding rather than what the EH60D is outputting.
Your 'fix ' refreshes the TV switching.
I can't suggest any other workaround except perhaps checking out your TV aspect settings.

It's definately a bug with the "60" I'm afraid. It's impossible for my TV to remove the black banding from the top and bottom of a correctly letterboxed picture from any source connected to it so it's got to be the "60" that's alterring the output from letterbox to 16:9 all on it's own regardless of the setting in the menu.

Thanks to Gavtech and all for relies to my post. I can be sure its not a TV issue because my TV is old (Sony KVA2112 from 1992) and is fundamentally an analogue only box that displays the 625 lines that are fed to it without any thought about aspect ratio.

So, I conclude that there is a bug in my EH60 - do I take it from the general silence that only one or two of us see the problem? I'm getting near to the end of the warranty period and I might start to make a fuss!

Is there a hidden 'engineers menu' to do a defrag/disc clean up? Mine started to play up during an edit and partial erase session which makes me wonder if this action could/should be considered.

I don't think there is such a thing. Engineers would just use the Format command in disk management... which would mean losing all your recordings of course.

It is known that returning to partial erase after having already used it on a recording can cause problems, so it is best to complete all editing in one session.

An alternative is to use non-destructive editing by creating chapters and using the playlists facility to recreate edited programmes.

Firmware 1.13. DMR-EH60DEB
Can anyone tell me how I may obtain this update. My present firmware is 1.11.
For some reason I missed the update scheduled for Jan 07.
Have contacted Panasonic, and they say this can only be done by a panasonic dealer.
They want at least £20 before they will even look at the DVD Recorder.
Think this is a bit much considering most other manufactures provide firmware updates f.o.c.

Hi Mike.

Is there some reason why you feel you need this update?

The update dealt with an issue so minor that I cannot even remember what it was.
Updates only deal with the Freeview reception software, not the operating Firmware.
I cannot remember it making the slightest difference to my machine.

Updates from Panasonic are exceedingly rare, but they are usually repeated at some stage.

Keep an eye on download schedules here:

Hi Gavtech, Thanks for reply.
I had noted that this firmware would possibly solve a couple of minor problems that I am having with the recorder.

1. When I program a timer recording it usually records in 4:3 format not 16:9 as set.

2. Each time I switch on unit it comes up in "All Services"mode rather than the "Profile" mode which it was last used in, so have to manually select profile mode each time it is switched on.

Hi Mike

See post number 4 in this thread about a method that is reputed to deal with the 'Loss of profile' problem:
