Hi Gavtech, Thanks for that, thought I had read most of the forum posts, but obviously missed this, will give these suggestions a try.

Hi all, as you all know the panasonic users manuals are at best chaotic, so i am hoping someone can help. I was having some DVD dubbing issues, kept stopping after around 30% so i had to switch it of and on to get ti to eject the disk (can anyone recommend the best DVD disk to use?).

Now when i play a DVD the display on the unit itself says the word PLAY instead of the disk timer (how many minutes the film has been playing), can anyone tell me how to get the timer back? Ive tried the usual pressing all the buttons on the remote!!

I've had dubbing issues also. Had the disk replaced but still sometimes get them. I've actually had the model changed but this was due to a service fault. I believe my answers are still valid, however.

In answer to your first question, Xabulous:
When I complained of problems to Panasonic they replied (in part)
"We recommend the use of disks manufactured for Panasonic, TDK, JVC or Maxell, as disks from other manufacturers may not be fully compatible with our systems."

As for the second I find the display says "Play" during the DVD title screen/sequence but when the programme plays it shows a counter of minutes. I have not found a way of displaying the title or chapter numbers.

Thanks for that, Ironically i am using Panasonic -R disks. I was using TDK -R which worked well but i was not able to get these the last time i ordered so got TDK +R which the panny hates with advegance. It makes a terrible racket and stops and starts repeatedly.

Hello Folks

This is a quiet thread these days.

Do those of you who still subscribe to it still have your EH60D's?

... and are they still going strong?

Just a matter of curiosity.

Sold mine a few years ago, had another Panasonic since then but am now on a Sony both HDD/DVD. After having HDD I could never consider having just a DVD Recorder.

I hear the person who bought it still uses it.

Just realised I was getting confused with my older Panasonic DVD Recorder, I think the model number had a 55 in it. I sold the EH60D to some friends who are still using it.

Yes, mine is still working away - still the same annoyance with failing to switch to letterbox mode (I still use a 4:3 TV) but apart from that working well.

Mine works well too use it for copying from sky plus box and recording things I might like to watch later

Mine still works well but I often had problems using DVD-RW's - never got Memorex disks to work - lots of noise and beer mats. I now use RAM disks for transfer to PC and I never have problems with high-speed dub or aspect ratio. I use LP for recording day to day stuff.

I mostly use VideoReDo to edit on the PC but recently I've used Panasonic DVD Movie Album. The Panny prog is good because it handles the RAM format better whereas with VRD you have to access the MPEG file direct. With the RAM disk the MPEG stuff is all in one lump and occasionally if I fill the disks over 90% VRD doesn't always see everything on the disk. If I dump 4 one hour episodes it can't see the last one - so I only fill it between 80 - 90%.

I mostly use it for Sky recording - I'm not in the heady world of Sky+ - I've got 2 Hummy 9200s for that sort of thing.

Still using mine, but just recently it has lost a group of channels (bbc1 bbc2), and a rescan is not finding them again. Other receivers in the house are still OK so is there a problem with my panny ?

Update: A rescan has just found the missing channels, but they are in the wrong order now.....any ideas on how to correct this bbc1 is now ch 806!

Yes- Do a rescan with the aerial completely disconnected to completely clear the channel memory... then rescan again.

Ideally it would have been better if you had not rescanned.

When channels disappear it can be for a variety of reasons. There is a huge amount of aerial work going on currently in preparation for the digital changeover, so channels will be periodically on reduced strength, or dropping out altogether.

On such occasions it is better just to leave receivers alone, because channel placeholders are maintained for the channels , and when reception improves again they will return, provided you have not rescanned.

1.14 has downloaded for me - does anyone know what changes it introduces?

The only difference is it deals with the 'split NIT' problem.

Since the introduction of a split NIT in Freeview broadcasting, were you to scan for channels , the channel placeholders would go awry and you would not have the channels where you want them to be.

This update deals with that problem.

I hope this might cure my problem of no Dave being found.
Just invested in a Panasonic LCD with DVB built in and low and behold finds Dave on MUX C from Mendip strength 10.
Tried an auto restart and still won't find it.

Another problem that hasn't gone away is that the chroma
saturation changes randomly, Like having a dodgy connection. It's been like it from new but is very intermittent.
Other than that, and the VF display so dull its almost disappeared, Its still working well.
May have to get a model with HDMI now I have sockets galore!

Hi All,

I have a new problem - nothing to do with the freiview part - mina ll works well in that area but I did invest in a new arial so that may be worth it for some.

My problem is that since the upgrade my DVD drive is refusing to finalize discs. And it is doing it intermittently - eek!

When this happen on my multiple PC's i just change the drive and have the old one as a reader only but it seems from looking in the box that the panasonic is not that simple.

Firsly has anyone come across this before? And secondly any ideas where I can get a replacement from and how much?

Hope you can help

The drives in these things are dedicated drives and cost an absolute fortune [ knocking on the door of £200 ]
It is never really economic to replace them, given you can buy top notch machines for that price these days [ EX78 £205 ]

Firstly though, in what way do they fail at the finalising stage. If you hear an occasional scraping noise at that stage, there is a fix for it .

See post number 2 in THIS thread which has some info , and will lead you to another that includes details of the fix.

Incidentally the current Panasonic range EX78 / 88 already have the equivalent of 'Freeview playback ' features.

Thanks Gavtech I will certainly take this advice - the discs I use a re of average quality so it could be these specifically. The others I used where the grey and blue ridiscs and they nver had a problem.

Have noted tho that whilst it does not completely finaluse the dies ir does creat a disc where you can transfer and play the files on a PC - it basically creates the menu.

Am going to try to see if Nero can take that and reecreate the disc - cheap discs mean this might make this a viablew option for a short period of time until i decide on the the new DVD player

Hi all, well finally we are getting freview in my area next week. As my panny has never had a software update, should i have any issues with freeview tuning? Have there been any significant changes in the updtaes that could affect it? Cheers
