I’m writing this post in concern of the Digital Spy Big Brother 3 forum, which seems to have a very hostile stigma attached to it. The majority of members in this forum post valid points though some others feel they can abuse the forum.
I have been disappointed to see homophobia, sexism, insulting and threatening posts in here which is here in the first place for your benefit.
To give you an example; Lee Cool (forum member) made a post in support for Jade and giving his opinion. A reply to him by 'Calrissian'
“How old are you lee, 10yrs of age perhaps? Maybe you live in a lovely council estate too, and have a few pit bulls, hmm. Yes, you and jade will go nicely together, I’m sure you're already writing to her now c/o BB.”
Express was concerned and the post was reported, only to be followed by a post from 'Lux'
“I live on a Council Estate and wasn't the slightest bit offended cos I'm not like most of the Pikeys around here.
What I am highly offended at is the sight of Jade's piggy face on my TV too much, yes I know I have an on/off switch but then I'd miss the Alex/Jonny action (there's definitely a fight brewing there).
If (and God forbid) Jade wins she should spend the money on some of those "irons" boxers use to reduce eye swelling or better still get a one way ticket to Tasmania to meet her long lost relative "The Tasmanian Devil" - - - a VERY strong resemblance don't u think.”
May I direct the people that feel this is acceptable to Digital Spy’s T&C’s:
2.1 You must not post or transmit through the Digital Spy Site any defamatory, threatening, obscene, harmful or pornographic material or material which would violate or infringe in any way upon the rights of others (including intellectual property rights, rights of confidentiality, or rights of privacy) or cause distress or inconvenience or which do not comply with all relevant laws. You must not post messages that are vulgar, crude, sexist, racist, homophobic or otherwise offensive. Always treat other users with respect.
Pathetic posts like those given as examples lower the tone of the forum and the image of Digital Spy’s coverage of Big Brother. I use the word pathetic because quite simply there’s not other word for it.
I am sure you are well aware that there are quite a few other threads with posts that quite clearly break 2.1 of the Terms and Conditions.
It’s not just comments to other forum members that I would like to highlight, comments about the housemates can also be crude, unfounded and unfair. Indeed you have an opinion about a certain housemate, who doesn’t, but the way some people put that opinion across is second-rate.
I’m not going to lower myself to the level of the people who post such rubbish by slagging them off, but would like them to think twice about what they post because continuous posting of such content does nothing for how other members of Digital Spy perceive you.
You may think I am the only person expressing concern but I have spoken to many forum members who now don’t’ feel they can post in this forum because of the hostile replies they are likely to get.
DS staff seem to have been asked for tighter moderation of this forum though personally I don’t think they shouldn’t have to if we all treat each other with respect, though I know this will never happen.
