I think its a possibility - but ITV does have a huge number of Christmas Soap Specials, so the BBC may not want the Doc to be lost in the schedule by Mums watching Corronation Street and Emmerdale.

I think whats more likely is Christmas Eve - possibly keeping its 7PM time. I'm a bit surprised the special is not a little longer, say 1hr 30.

Christmas Day, about 6pm - would fit perfectly into the lull I always get around that time leaving me refreshed for yet more family time in the evening

With a bit of luck, someone will give me the DVDs for Christmas and I can watch them all in the runup... that would be perfection...

Christmas Day early evening would be the obvious choice for "primeness" (no idea if that's a word, but I'm using it anyway ). However, at Christmas time, "primeness" doesn't always mean good ratings.

Christmas Day is regarded as a family time with VCRs, DVD recorders and Sky+ boxes working overtime in order to catch the umpteenth episode of EE or Corrie (not mention ITV's fantasic movie ).

So I reckon Christmas Eve 7pm. It is a Saturday after all

Many of us who are more partial to the adult beverages than your good self, Mark, will be in the pub for the duration of Christmas Eve (not if DW's on, but you know what I mean)
Christmas Day telly is iconic and DW has to be on Christmas Day

Considering the ratings pulling-power of DW I would expect it to be on at 7 on Chritmas Day. The Beeb won't want to lose their Chritmas crown and DW is a sure-fire way of keeping it.

The pub......

I've just realised that it won't really matter when it's shown - I'll have to tape it! The only time they could show it and I wouldn't have to tape it, would probably be about the middle of January!

I reckon Chritmas day, just after eastenders and before eastenders

if the episode is just an hour thats only 10 to 15 extra minutes, why can't they make a big feature length episode or even a two parter for christmas day and boxing day

Indeed - that'd be great.

I do however have to pinch myself that we're getting any DW at all - so I'm not going to moan about "just" an hour's Christmas special.

Has to be Christmas Day. Its a sure fire ratings winner for the BBC and will blow anything ITV puts up against it. An hour special would equate to about 80 mins when you add the adverts in for foreign sales- so a 90 min which would equate to a 2 Hour if ads are added would be my guess- this makes it weasy to split into 2parts for repeat viewings

cant wait- its been ages since I have looked forward to something on TV as much as I do theis new version of Dr Who
