Extra aerial socket?
Hello,
I have an aerial on my roof (no surprise there!) with a cable running down the back of the house into the back room. I would like to have an aerial socket in the front room so thought it would be easier to run another cable from the aerial down the front of the house into the front room. Is this possible? Or would the aerial need replacing? Cheers Simon |

The aerial might not need replacing, but you may need an amplifier to split the single aerial downlead into 2 feeds for the 2 tvs. It depends how strong your signal is. Without having to go on the roof, you could try connecting a short lead to where your original cable comes into the house and try feeding both tvs at the same time. This will give you an indication as to if it may work. Otherwise, you should be able to get a fairly cheap 2-way amplifier (£10ish?). This will need plugging in to the mains, so again, try it in the house where the original lead comes in. This will work, but you will then have to route a cable through the house. You could think about mounting the amplifier in the loft if you have power and access to the cables.

Should be easy enough to drop the coax through the eves and down the front of the house to the desired entry point. That's the set up I've got at the moment - old roof aerial feeding a Philips DTR1500 in the back room, and Argos digital aerial in the loft feeding the Daewoo Setpal in the front room - works a treat (but we have a big roofspace).

"multi-way amplifier" or "2-way booster" is they way to go where we live.
Our signals are quite weak. If we installed an aerial in the loft, the signal would not be strong enough to get Freeview or possibly analogue channel5 as well. So we have a single high gain aerial on the roof. One wire down, going into a 4-way amplifier. From that we have 3 aerial cables running to 3 rooms. Plus we have the empty 4th socket in case we want to wire up another room in the future. Dave |
