BBC News report on Dr Who Series 2
Jaycee Dove
01-08-2005
The lunchtime BBC news today had a report on the start of the filming for series two of DW. It will probably also air on the evening news at 6.00 pm. So look out for that.

I hope someone tells them to rewrite the script, as their presenter at lunch appears not to have watched the series before writing his. He made what seemed to me were two glaring errors in his report.

He seemed to say that Dr Who was the top returning drama of 'last' year - when it started in March 2005 - a full three monthis into this year. And it showed a scene where Christopher Ecclestone and the TARDIS dematerialised - adding that David Tennant was taking over because the previous doctor had left - in his TARDIS,of course. Anyone watching the show knows this is a misleading, if not plain inaccurate, statement.

Apologies if I misheard the report but that was how I thought he presented things.

Production at the BBC probably follows the the same as the tax year. So march 2005 is last year.

The comment about the Doctor leaving was probably meant as a throw-away 'funny' line

Most of us on this forum care actually - you're definitely in the minority on here.

so why spend your time in a doctor who thread and take the time to tell everyone that you dont care? seems like a vain attempt to get people to pay attention to you...

would you like a jelly baby?

I heard a piece on R4 news about it, and so .. on a whim .. popped BBC Wales News on at 6.30. There was indeed a piece on the new series: filming in Cardiff Bay (a restaurant being used as the yedar 1,000,000), and chats with DT and Billie. Nothing majorly revealing, but nice to see, nonetheless.

Because I'm a journalism student, i'm not spending time in a "who thread" i'm spending time in a Sci-Fi - BBC News thread

I was a journalism student 15 years ago. It does tend to do that to you, but you do get better eventually.

Does anyone know when they're actually filming in Cardiff Bay? I only live 2 mins walk away and wouldn't mind going to watch.

They don't reveal filming locations in advance because they don't want huge crowds of people there. Apparently they have already had trouble with people taking pictures and spoiling takes.

The production office has released this:

"No noise or flash photography if you're watching filming.
Doctor Who is now filming - it may even be in your area, as we speak. If you find out that Doctor Who is filming near you, and plan on turning up to watch, then can we ask that you respect the wishes of the cast and crew and follow any instructions that are given to you by security and staff on set?
The most important request is please don't take photographs during an actual take. Filming last week was disrupted both by cameras with flash, and those that made a "beep" every time they took a picture. Both are enough to stop a take, and it takes a long time for the entire cast and crew to reset for another go.
If in doubt, please don't take any pictures at all, but, if you must, please ensure that your flash and any sounds are turned off.
Everyone is working very hard to make the best possible programme. We don't advertise where we're filming as large crowds cause added disruption, both to a tight schedule and to people who live and work in the surrounding area. Sadly, this also means that we can't confirm rumours of upcoming locations.
