Digital Media Centers
So, I've decided to buy a digital media center (or whatever they're called by all the different manufacturers). I've got a short list of 4 products that I've been able to find on-line.
Philips Streamium SL300i I like this one, mainly because it looks so much better than all the other ones I've found - plus it's Philips sop it matches my TV and DVD player. However, the reviews I've read make it out to be pants. D-Link DSM 320 Wireless Media Player This seems to play nearly all of the formats i want and I like that it gets regular firmware updates, the big but is that it won't play Divx and there is a audio lag on some encoded files. I really don't want to have to re-encode all my Divx files. Pinnacle ShowCenter 1000 This seems identical to the one below, the only obvious differences being it won't play HD and it looks sleeker, much sleeker. Pinnacle ShowCenter 200 This seems to do everything I want, and will even play HD files but it's ugly as hell and the remote looks like it was designed by a child. Most review are favourable, but all mention a slowness of menu transitions. I can't decide, every one of them has a feature I want but all have their little drawbacks. The current front runner is the ShowCenter 1000 - simply because it's a better looking version of the ShowCenter 200. I don't care about the wireless capabilities of the unit's, I'll be running it on a wired network. Do you have any of these, any suggestions, any other similar products out there? |

there is also the cheap and cheerful Hauppauge Media MVP. Dump the supplied software and go for the free stuff at www.gbpvr.com.
