Do you need to route the video stream throught the AVR at all?
I just use my Denon for sound only; even though it does have the option to switch composite and SVideo sources through it, I connect my Freeview and DVD directly to my telly (I'm lucky to have two RGB scarts on my Sony 32"). Then my VCR is connected to the AV2 on the Freeview box so I can do timer recordings. The telly defaults to Freeview on AV1, then changes to whichever source I turn on last. For sound the DVD, VCR and Freeview box are directly connected to the AVR. Perhaps you can use a similar setup?
