Obscure Bands That You Like That Nobody Else Has Really Heard Of
Are there any bands/artists that you love who are pretty much unknown?
For me I love Wilco & Jellyfish, but I've hardly ever meet anyone who has heard of them. Jellyfish have now broken up but I still love their albums. And Wilco are brilliant & have a huge fanbase in the US, but they're still relatively unknown. |

Marlowe... they're signed to an independant label in Liverpool. (Probe Records). I've liked them for ages, and realised last year that a work colleague was actually a member of them. Had various singles played on MTV2, and are definitely one to watch out for.

Used to have loads, but most have gone 'mainstream' now - not that I bemoan them that joy you understand
![]() Anyway - back to the topic at hand... Sundae Club - Melodious, ambient sound similar to that of Lemon Jelly. Their second album should be coming out soon; currently unsigned, so you'll have to go to their website to buy http://www.sundaeclub.com/ - check out the nice samples of the first album whilst you're there!

Couldn't tell you what they were like not because I was drunk or anything like that, I just don't recall. One band I like at the moment that nobody I know has heard of is The Arcade Fire but as they appeared on Later....with Jools Holland, I doubt that they are that unknown. |

Era.
A couple of their tracks have seen the light of day (Ameno, with an excellent remix by DJ Quicksilver) and more recently, "The Mass", the title track from the album of the same name has appeared on Classic FM TV. And how did I hear of them? One of their CDs was in a bargain bucket in a shop in Aberdeen, and I was sufficiently intrigued to gamble the £1.99 price-tag on it. |

I don't know why they're obscure, but I love:
Our Lady Peace They're an alternative rock band from Canada and have been around for 11 years. They're my favourite band and extremely underrated for the talent they possess! Their last album Gravity is slighty more mainstream and really could be enjoyed by any rock fan! |

Loads of bands, absolutely loads.
A couple of bands that are very underrated and should have been alot bigger are The God Machine and Six By Seven. I've got loads of stuff by old bands on the Creation label, like Ride, The Telescopes, The Boo Radleys, Swervedriver and Felt (as well as bigger names like Oasis and Primal Scream) Some of those might be familiar, but what about The Revolving Paint Dream, Meat Whiplash or The Loft? |

I'm in love with Plumb at the moment... great Nashville-style pop-rock with subtle Christian undertones (which you can choose to ignore !) www.plumbinfo.com

I like quite a few, lesser-known acts.
Most of the mainstream music these days is worthless, but there is a few exceptions (the new Nine Inch Nails album is amazing for example) My favourite obscure bands are Cat Power, Saul Williams, The Arcade Fire, Stabbing Westward, Boards Of Canada and Tool. Any of you guys like or heard any of this stuff? |

Wouldn't call Boards of Canada and especially Arcade Fire (darlings of the NME set) obscure but I like 'em. New Boards album in October should be one to look out for.
Currently liking The Vector Warrior (unsigned electronica act, seek out the free downloads), Marc Hellner, Kraak en Smaak, The Juan Maclean, Evil Nine, Broadcast, Diefenbach, Cut Copy, Vector Lovers, Richard Cheese (hilarious), Tiefschwarz, Rebelski, Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band....to name a few |

Fischersponer, anyone else know them? Also a group called Specificus, they dont have a contract as far as i am aware though. They worked alot with Darren Hayes, remixing tracks & their own stuff is quite good as well! If anyone fancies a listen they have a website- specificus website

I thought it was a description of himself before I realised it was a band I like Kak ( ) and their eponymous album, er, Kak from the late 60's (recently rereleased as Kak-ola with extra tracks on it) - one of the tracks is being used for a BT advert with the bloke in the flat living his life through a telephone directory. I was both excited and disappointed when I recognised the tune.

How about Shack?
Don't know hjow popular they are on this forum but have their last three CD's -all gorgeous, timeless pop melodies, but they never seem to get any recognition. Same story for the recently split Delgados. |

My submission is "Silent Running". I used to own the XDR cassette of "Shades of Liberty" and sadly miss it (it got badly minced by the tape deck).

Does Talib Kweli count? His album "The Beautiful Struggle" is pretty good, IMO.

There's quite a good Northern Irish band called 'The Betes Noires'. I think they have supported Ash in the past.

Some of these may not be that obscure, but they don't get much recognition in the UK - Hootie & the Blowfish, Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, Life House, Our Lady Peace, Paloalto, Mint Royal, The Crystal Method
